Do you have any old, unused lifejackets hanging around? This , give the gift of water safety by donating them to the Lifesaving Society!
We believe that everyone deserves to feel safe around the water, and the first step is access to good-quality, proper-fitting lifejackets.
That’s why we launched our Lifejacket Loaner Stations program, which helps supply lifejackets to pools and waterfronts in communities across Alberta and the Northwest Territories. But we can’t do it alone.
This Giving Tuesday, we want to procure 50 new or gently used lifejackets (equivalent to $2,500) to support existing stations, open new stations, and develop our Indigenous Swim Program!
If you have any old lifejackets that are still in working condition, please consider donating them this Giving Tuesday! Contact us at [email protected] if you have lifejackets to donate!
If you don’t have any lifejackets but still wish to support our cause, monetary donations are also gratefully accepted through our Canada Helps page: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/138906
Any donation over $20 is eligible for a charitable receipt, and we always make sure to thank our donors in our Annual Report!

It’s , and this week’s photo was submitted by Matthew Jones!
He and his son Zachary love to explore, and they make sure to keep safety a priority wherever they go. Even the most calm, clear waters can have hidden dangers, so when Matthew and Zachary are exploring lakes, they know to be by wearing their lifejackets!
Take part in our contest this summer by sharing YOUR tips and stories! Each week, we’ll showcase our favourite entries, and the submission that receives the most engagement by July 31 will win a mystery bag of merch such as tumblers, backpacks, stickers, bucket hats, and more!

This year, the May long weekend coincides with 2025, which runs from May 17 - 23.
has lots of helpful boating safety tips on their website, and we wanted to share some of our own!
If you're planning to spend the long weekend on your boat, be sure to keep these tips in mind to make the water a safer place for everyone!
Wear a Lifejacket:
- Even if you're a good swimmer, you should always wear your lifejacket in a boat. Make sure to choose one that's in good condition, Transport Canada approved, and the proper size to support your weight.
Check the Weather Conditions:
- Know before you go! Keep an eye on the weather to avoid boating in potentially dangerous conditions.
Drive Responsibly:
- Drive at moderate speeds, and use proper lights after dark.
Pack a Safety Kit
- Your safety kit should include a first aid kit, a bailing bucket, a whistle or horn, a flashlight, and a throw rope.
Bring a Buddy:
- Don't boat alone. Boating with a buddy is safer, and more fun!
Boat Sober:
- In Alberta alone, alcohol consumption was found to be a factor in 50% of boating-related fatalities.
- "Don't Drink and Drive" applies to boats, too!
