Sweetie - Available for Adoption
Bichon - Female - 10 lbs - 6 yrs (approx)
Spayed/Vaccines/UTD/Microchipped
Foster Location - Guelph, ON
Sponsored by Mary Lou Kightley - May this lovely dog find the safe and loving home they so deserve.
Sweetie is as her name suggests.. sweet.
Sweetie can be a bit of a lone soul, often heading off to nap in her bed away from all of the action. Other times she feels social and seeks out a playmate. At night she snuggles into a dog bed with one of the other dogs in the home . We think she would be happy as a solo dog, or with another likeminded pup.
She often enjoys a good snuggle with her foster mom and is a great little companion dog. Though she has not been kid tested, her gentle demeanor suggests that she would most likely be fine with respectful children.
Sweetie was recently spayed, a dental was done (with several extractions), vaccines were updated and she was microchipped. Sweetie does have some slight hair loss on her back, with no clear reason for it that we can find.
House training is coming along really well and though she doesn’t seem to know how to alert her people, regular trips outside keep her on schedule. She does fine when left home alone for brief periods of time. She is calm, not destructive and seems to like having the house to herself. Sweetie isn’t a huge fan of the car, but this is likely just lack of experience more than anything. She’s slowly figuring out the leash walking but seems happier to just run and explore the yard. While she is not overly vocal, she does sometimes like to share her opinion, so we would not suggest her for apartment living.
While foster mom does refer to her as a bit of a lone soul at times, she’s a night time cuddler and would love to claim a spot on your bed. We promise she won’t snore, but she may try and steal all the blankets.

Lilah - no longer accepting applications
Mini Poodle – Female – 15 lbs – 5 yrs (approx)
Spayed/Vaccines UTD/Microchipped
Foster Location: London, ON
Sponsored by Toba, in honour of Toby and Penny. Every fur baby deserves a loving home and happiness
Lilah is a 4 year old poodle and former mill mama who is now discovering just how wonderful life can be. She is a gentle, submissive, quiet little soul with the sweetest personality and a constantly wagging little stubby tail. Lilah adores people and is much more focused on human companionship than other dogs, although she does well with both dogs and cats. She can be a little shy when first meeting new people, but she warms up quickly once she feels safe.
This happy girl is currently on a weight loss journey and doing wonderfully. She would do very well in an apartment or quieter home environment. Lilah is comfortable being left alone, settles nicely in her crate, and enjoys sleeping in her bed beside her foster mom’s bed at night. When Lilah first arrived, she had a couple of accidents in the house while adjusting to her new routine. With a consistent schedule, she is now housetrained and doing very well. She’s also making great progress with leash training every day.
Lilah is looking for a patient, loving home where she can continue building confidence and enjoy the life she always deserved. If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate companion with a gentle heart, Lilah may be your perfect match.

Sheila - no longer accepting applications
Mini Dachshund - Female - 9 lbs - 5 yrs (approx.)
Spayed, Vaccines UTD, Microchipped
Foster Location - Mississauga, ON
Sponsored by Julie Neil and her amazing Save Me Alumni dog Bean
Meet Sheila – A Gentle Soul Discovering the World
Sheila is a 5-year-old miniature dachshund with the sweetest, softest personality you could imagine. After spending the first part of her life as a breeding mama, she’s just beginning to experience what it truly means to be a loved family companion—and watching her discover the world is something really special.
Sheila is a gentle, quiet girl who finds comfort in simple things—like her cozy “safe spot” on the living room couch, where she loves to relax and observe her surroundings. Everything is still new to her, so she thrives in a calm, patient home that will give her the time and reassurance she needs to continue building confidence.
At night, Sheila’s loving nature really shines—she prefers to sleep in bed close to her foster family, where she feels safe, secure, and part of the pack.
Sheila appears to be house-trained and knows that outdoor time is for bathroom breaks, though she hasn’t yet mastered how to ask to go outside. A home with a securely fenced yard would be ideal to help set her up for success with regular potty breaks. She enjoys her walks and has recently started learning that walks are another opportunity to do her business, and she’s making great progress.
Sheila does have occasional mild urinary leakage, typically after long periods of rest. Veterinary testing has ruled out any underlying medical concerns, and this is believed to be related to having had multiple litters and being spayed later in life. The leaking is infrequent, and she can often go extended periods without any issues. It does not impact her quality of life and is simply something her future family should be aware of.
Sheila would prefer to have another small, friendly dog in the home. She looks to other dogs for reassurance and blossoms when she has a calm canine companion by her side. She’s good with small dogs but can feel nervous around larger ones.
As Sheila has become more comfortable in her foster home, we’ve seen her personality continue to emerge. She can be a little vocal on walks and occasionally bark if startled by unfamiliar people or when other dogs approach unexpectedly. This appears to be fear-based rather than aggressive behaviour, and with reassurance and guidance, she settles quickly and does very well. A patient family willing to continue building her confidence will help her thrive.
Because of her little dachshund legs and long back, stairs and jumping are not safe for Sheila. She’ll need a home with minimal or no stairs, and her family should be mindful to prevent her from jumping on and off furniture to keep her safe and healthy.
Sheila is not crate trained and doesn’t enjoy being in a crate, but she does well being left to free roam. She can be a bit vocal when left alone, so a home that can continue to work with her gently on building confidence and routine would be ideal. Because of this, apartment/condo living or a home with shared walls would not be the best fit.
Sheila is truly a special little dog with so much love to give. With patience, understanding, and a furry friend by her side, she will continue to blossom into the devoted companion she was always meant to be.
Could Sheila be the missing piece in your home?

Odie - no longer accepting applications
Shih Tzu - Male - 21 lbs - 3 yrs (approx)
Neutered, Vaccines UTD, Microchipped
Foster Location: Kitchener, ON
Sponsored by Gema & Craig, in honour of our two love bugs Woody (formerly Devin) and Dixie, Save me Rescue alumni, who over the last 3 years have brought so much joy to our family. We love you both with all our hearts and look forward to making more memories with you both.
Medical: Odie came to us with a long-standing wound to his neck that was not healing. We had cultures and a biopsy done and 3 different bacterial infections were found. With this knowledge, he has been able to receive the proper antibiotics and is healing beautifully. He has a final vet check-up June 11th and then we expect him to be ready for his forever home.
Meet Odie — although these days he happily answers to “Buddy,” a nickname his foster mom started using when he arrived in care and immediately perked up to. It suits him perfectly, because he truly is a wonderful little companion.
Odie is the kind of dog who quietly walks into your life, steals your heart, and makes you wonder how you ever lived without him.
This sweet, gentle guy has an easygoing low-to-medium energy level. Calm and quiet in the home, fully house trained, and non-destructive, he settles beautifully into everyday life. He has not required crating in foster care and is happiest simply being included in whatever is going on around him.
He thrives on companionship and would love a home where he can be part of daily life. While he doesn’t need intense exercise, Odie enjoys getting out and about with his people and would thrive with one or two easy walks each day, some playtime, and whenever possible a car ride too! Thanks to his quiet nature, Odie could do well in either a house or apartment, though he would certainly enjoy having a yard to explore.
Odie is friendly with other dogs and has previously done well with cats, too. He enjoys canine companionship but would prefer another easygoing playmate over a rough-and-rowdy or highly energetic dog. He’s also wonderful with respectful children and happily welcomes new people both at home and out on adventures.
He travels exceptionally well in the car and cheerfully joins his foster family on errands, visits, and outings. While he enjoys relaxing and cuddling with his people, he also has a playful side and loves squeaky toys, tug games, chasing a Chuckit ball, and digging for toys hidden under blankets.
Outside, Odie enjoys leisurely walks and relaxing yard time — especially if there are birds, squirrels, or bunnies nearby to supervise. He walks nicely on leash and especially enjoys a good “sniffari” stroll where he can take in the world around him. Odie has shown some excitement when he spots other dogs on walks and may offer a few barks, but it appears to stem from enthusiasm and wanting to say hello rather than discomfort. While we have not allowed on-leash greetings, Odie has been consistently friendly, social, and appropriate with dogs he has met in other settings, including at the office and through fence-line introductions.
Odie will require regular grooming, possibly professional, and is wonderfully cooperative for handling and care. He calmly tolerates brushing, baths, paw checks, eye cleaning, and medication. He does seem sensitive to having nails his trimmed at home, so that may need to be done professionally.
At the end of the day, Odie is a loving, loyal little companion who is happiest sharing everyday life with the people he loves. If you’re searching for a gentle sidekick and devoted best buddy, Odie might just be your perfect match.

Tilly - NOT accepting applications
Rat Terrier Mix – Female – 15 lbs – 4 yrs (approx)
Spayed, Vaccines UTD, Microchipped
Foster Location - London, ON
Sponsored by Maanya and Raj
Tilly is a small 4 year old female rat terrier mix, who arrived at Save Me via Tennessee. She is spayed and is in good health. Tilly is very curious about everything in her environment, is affectionate and loves a cuddle on a lap. She appears to be house broken and responds well to regularly timed exercise. She was not a big eater at first but with the fresh air and exercise, she is now eating two regular meals. Tilly has beautiful brown eyes, a delicate build with long legs, short hair and lovely tan markings. She seems quite athletic as she can jump high with ease and has good balance. However, she also uses those skills to try and escape from her collar or harness when walking on leash. Her build is so long and slight, it is a challenge to get a harness to fit properly and stay in place. Even in the house, she does not like to wear her collar. She is still a flight risk.
When meeting people, Tilly is cautious. She is good with other dogs. In the house, she mostly comes when she is called and can climb stairs. Her prey drive is strong, her hearing is excellent and she notices every squirrel, chipmunk and rabbit. She may have separation anxiety and so far, likes to be with our other dog if we are not home.
At night, Tilly sleeps in her open crate and generally stays there all night. Tilly is still working on her leash manners and acceptance of other people.

Elsa is no longer accepting applications
Mini Poodle Mix – Female – 5.5 lbs – 7 months
Foster Location: Guelph
Spayed/Vaccines UTD/Microchipped
Please read bio for medical notes
Sponsored by Heather in loving memory of Eliot York
Elsa is an adorable tiny mini poodle mix! Her big personality makes up for her tiny size though. She is always on the go and has no trouble keeping up with her foster siblings, often tiring them all out!
Elsa is mostly house trained; she does really well for 7 months old. She is crated at night and for short periods when her foster mom needs to be out of the house. Elsa can be vocal with high pitch cries when she is first left alone, but then settles in. She does bark at noises so apartment living isn’t ideal.
She loves the outdoors and enjoys exploring the yard and while on walks. She does pretty good on a leash, but her excitedness makes it hard to focus on simply walking when there is so much to see and do in this world! Elsa has a lot of energy and will need a full family to keep her busy. She does well with kids, cats and dogs.. though she’s a high energy playmate that older dogs and cats may not appreciate. She would love a fur sibling to match her energy level, or human kids to play with. Elsa thinks everyone is her friend.
Elsa is a pure joy and has the funniest little personality. Just call her name and she will come running, tail wagging falling over her own feet. She’s always up for fun! She listens well and will be fun to do training with. She loves to cuddle and give kisses too. Just a bright and bubbly tiny girl looking for her forever family.
Medical notes for Elsa: Elsa has luxating patella graded at a 4 with her back right leg. This is not uncommon for the breed, but it is a more serious case. The rescue has a prebooked an appointment (on August 12th) with the orthopedic surgeon we use in Thornbury/Collingwood area for her knee to be rechecked at 9 months of age. An adopter WILL be expected to take Elsa to that appointment. If the surgeon feels she will benefit from surgery (we expect that will be the case) surgery will be done that day. An adopter MUST understand the post surgery care that will be involved if the surgery goes ahead. It will require restricted movement, controlled movement and range of motion exercises for 4 to 6 weeks post surgery for her leg to heal properly. THE RESCUE WILL COVER THE COST OF THE SURGERY (if needed) and any associated follow up appointments. ***This is a big consideration when applying to adopt her and will be discussed during screening.

"No applications? No email enquires?... well, take that!" says Doris with a giggle and a wink 😉
Doris would love to find her very own family and fur siblings. Doris is a happy, friendly and playful girl who thinks getting "up close and personal" should be an Olympic sport in which she'd for sure place Gold!
Please check out her bio on our website and see if this chunky gem is still available for adoption.
