We made the best of today! We stayed home and played in our front cross country field for a “mock competition”.

IMPORTANT NOTICE! CANCELLATIONS AND POSTPONEMENTS!
Hello all,
We have just received a notice from our local Veterinarian.
Where this outbreak is so fresh, we can not risk the health of our horses or yours.
The unknown spread of this is always scary.
We regret to inform you that our Adult Dressage night- Aug 27th is cancelled.
We may be able to reschedule you all later, if it becomes a contained outbreak.
Also, our very exciting PEI Pony Club Rally is cancelled. We have been asked to
"Avoid unnecessary travel between farms, boarding facilities, shows, clinics, competitions, and other equine gatherings "
so we can not in good conscience head out to PEI.
This is so disappointing but the right thing to do.
Our farm will remain closed to outside horses while we wait to hear updates from the Vet experts.
Thanks
Jennifer

NEWS BULLETIN
CONFIRMED CASE OF EHV-1
NEUROLOGICAL FORM
IN NEW BRUNSWICK
A confirmed positive case of Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV-1), neurological form, has been reported in New Brunswick.
PLEASE HELP REDUCE THE RISK OF TRANSMISSION
• Restrict horse movement whenever possible
• Avoid unnecessary travel between farms, boarding facilities, shows, clinics, competitions, and other equine gatherings
• Implement strict biosecurity measures
• Contact the clinic if you are concerned about a sick horse or potential exposure
IMPORTANT
Vaccination against EHV-1 and EHV-4 does not provide protection against the neurological form of EHV-1.
Strict biosecurity and restricting horse movement are among the most effective ways to limit the spread of disease.
Please watch for further recommendations from local horse circuits, Princess Louise Park, and/or the Province of New Brunswick.
We will continue monitoring the situation and will share updates as additional information becomes available.
Although this news is concerning, sporadic cases can occur, and a prompt, coordinated response is often successful in controlling transmission.
Thank you for helping protect the health of our local equine community.

🐴Caring for a Senior Horse
As horses age, their care needs evolve. Paying close attention to the following can help support comfort, mobility and overall well-being:
1. Nutrition - Recognize evolving nutritional needs, make gradual changes in feed, monitor weight and condition closely
2. Fitness - Movement and turn-out benefit senior horses
3. Dental health - Watch for non-circular chewing patterns, which may indicate that dental attention is needed and consult with your vet
4. Joint health - Arthritis is responsible for approximately 60% of lameness cases so keep joints lubricated through regular, slow-to-moderate exercise and consult with your vet for joint-support strategies tailored to your horse's needs
Small adjustments to your senior horse's management routine can make a big difference in maintaining health and quality of life throughout the aging process.
