McMaster University is proud to be one of 16 universities participating in EcoCAR 3; North America’s premier collegiate automotive engineering competition. Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition (AVTC) series. This four-year competition (2014-2018) challenges teams to re-engineer a Chevrolet Camaro into a hybrid-electric vehicle while maintaining the muscle and performance associated with the 'Camaro' marque.

Sending off our Cadillac LYRIQ to the final competition of the EcoCAR EV Challenge is a moment filled with both excitement and a bit of nostalgia.

Over the past four years, this vehicle has been more than just a platform—it’s been the foundation for countless hours of innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration across our team. From early design decisions to the integration of advanced features, every milestone has shaped not only the vehicle, but the people behind it.

As it heads to its final competition, we’re incredibly proud of what our team has accomplished and grateful for the support from our sponsors, mentors, and partners who made it all possible.

Pit Stop Update time!

It’s been a big home stretch for the team! From a successful Sponsor Showcase highlighting the incredible partners behind our journey, to our CarFit event making a real impact in the community—our Communications and Mobility Challenge teams have been hitting major milestones.

On the technical side, we’re continuing to push forward with advancements like Automatic Intersection Navigation and One Pedal Driving as we refine the future of smart, connected mobility.

Stay tuned, there’s a lot more to come with our next stop being final competition in Michigan this upcoming month!

School is pretty much done, but don't forget about your last class of the semester!

EcoCAR 101 is back in session and today's topic is half-shaft design. We are ending the semester off on a great topic, some would even call it moving... at least the LYRIQ does, because it can't move without them...

If you were worried though, don't be. We will be back at the start of the spring/summer semester with even more for you to learn about!

We’re thrilled to announce our participation in the next EcoCAR competition cycle through the Innovation Challenge and we are even more excited to continue being a part of the GM track! For the next four years, our team will be working with the 2026 Chevrolet Blazer, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in advanced vehicle technology.

This new platform gives our students the opportunity to explore cutting-edge solutions and continue building on the legacy of innovation that defines our team.

We can’t wait to get started, take on new challenges, and drive the future of mobility forward.

Milenna is a fourth year Physics Major who is also our Mobility Challenge Lead. Having been on the team for two years now, Milenna has made waves of change within our community and helped educate older adults about the benefits of EVs and smart mobility.
