Today is World Refugee Day and we honour refugees around the world, including their strength, their resilience, and the many ways they shape the communities they become part of. ❤️
Designated by the United Nations, World Refugee Day recognizes people who have been forced to flee their home countries to escape conflict, persecution, or human rights abuses. It’s a moment to reflect, learn, and stand in solidarity with those rebuilding their lives in safety. 🫂
Today is a reminder that welcoming refugees isn’t just the right thing to do — it reflects Canada’s long‑standing commitment to safety, dignity, and community for people seeking protection. It’s a core part of our identity, and it’s why we continue to stand with newcomers to Canada. 🇨🇦
If you’re hosting or attending any events, actions, or community initiatives for World Refugee Day, feel free to share them so we can help amplify and support the work happening across our city! ⬇️

As we head towards World Refugee Day tomorrow (June 20), we’re highlighting new research that sheds light on the real experiences, strengths, and contributions of refugees in Canada and right here in Hamilton. 🇨🇦
In this post, we’re diving into three important reports:
📘 Refugees are Good for Canada — UNHCR’s latest findings show how refugees boost Canada’s economy, workforce, and social fabric.
📙 Refugees & Asylum Claimants in Hamilton: A Demographic Profile — New data reveals a vibrant, diverse refugee community who contribute to the city’s cultural and economic life.
📗 Immigrant Voices: Hamilton Immigrant Survey 2025 — Local newcomers share their experiences, challenges, and the many ways they give back to Hamilton.
This research matters. It helps ground the conversation in facts, highlight newcomer contributions, and strengthen the case for a more welcoming, inclusive Canada. ❤️
If you know of other reports, research, or local data that help deepen our understanding of newcomer experiences, feel free to share them. We’d love to highlight more community‑informed insights during the week of action. ⬇️

The National Week of Action for World Refugee Day is all about lifting each other up — and one of the most meaningful ways we can get loud in support of refugees is by celebrating the community spaces where belonging is created every day. 💕
As part of the We’re Better Together campaign, today we are shining a light on the incredible local events and gatherings happening across our community. These moments of connection remind us how belonging is built together, and in community. 🙌
On our story, we’ll be sharing a few highlights of events, celebrations, or community gathering happening within the community. 🎉
We’d love to hear from you too! Drop other events, celebrations, or community gatherings in the comments so we can help spread the word. ⬇️
Let’s lift each other up and show that we’re truly better together. 🫶

As part of the We’re Better Together campaign, HIPC is joining organizations across the country in inviting community members to add their voice of support. 🙌
If you wish to participate, you can sign the open letter to the Prime Minister and show your support for a Canada where everyone feels they belong. 📝

During the National Week of Action for World Refugee Day, people across Canada are coming together to show support for immigrants and refugees — and HIPC is proud to be part of it! ❤️
As an organizational partner in the We’re Better Together campaign, we’re joining over 200 organizations nationwide to push back against rising anti‑immigrant and anti‑refugee hate. This campaign highlights a simple truth: newcomers make Canada stronger, and we’re better off when we stand together! 🫂
Here in Canada, we are proud to be a country that welcomes refugees, and we expect our leaders to make Canada a place where all families can thrive. We know we’re better off together! 😊
