Susan Hood Recap 📣
Crews were sending it at this year's 2026 Susan Hood Trophy Race. 🙌🏻 A big breeze turned up for the 78NM course around Lake Ontario, which saw 61 boats at the start line on Friday, May 29th. Boats were flying off the start towards Burlington with winds blowing 22+, gusting to 33 knots. Blast, a Beneteau 10R out of Mimico Cruising Club, saw a wind shift that brought 25+ knot gusts from their starboard aft quarter.
Skipper Ryan Bobyk, shares, "The years we’ve spent with the boat, and each other, gave us the confidence to go for it! We hoisted our A4 Kite and absolutely took off from the competition, breaking boat speed records like all other attempts didn’t matter."

North Sails expert Hugh Beaton adds, "[It was] One of the coldest Susan Hood races I can remember with a strong northerly wind in the 15-25 range for most of the race."

A special shoutout to Clear Air for taking 1st overall! 🏆 Big congratulations to all competitors, especially solo racers, who stuck it out for the unofficial kickoff of the season.

That’s a wrap on the first OS Grand Prix Development Series!

After weather kept the fleet off the water on Saturday, sailors came back ready to race on Sunday with 3 great races to decide the Ontario Summer Games qualifier for the 420 fleet at the Lilac Regatta.

Huge congratulations to all competitors and award winners. The patience, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the weekend made for an awesome event on and off the water.

Big thanks to the race committee, volunteers, coaches, and families for making the weekend possible. Along with series sponsors Zhik and Suzuki for supporting the Ontario Sailing Grand Prix Séries.
