Get to know a few more of the amazing volunteers who help keep our campus safe and bring great energy to every shift 🤍

Name and Pronouns: Samrit Rull (She/Her)
Program & Year: Infectious Diseases and Sociology, Level III
Role: Walker
Outside the office, you can catch her playing Roblox while sipping on chocolate milk. One of her favourite memories with SWHAT is staying super late and watching the Baseball World Series with the team.

Program & Year: Applied Psychology in Human Behaviour, Level III
Role: Dispatcher
Outside the office, you can catch her drinking coffee and playing games with the other volunteers. One of her favourite memories with SWHAT is playing a bunch of card games at one of our volunteer social events.

Program & Year: Honours Life Sciences, Level III
Role: Walker
Outside the office, you can catch him studying at HSL, sitting in class, or keeping up with various commitments around campus. If not, he’s probably grabbing an iced capp from Tim’s and trying to stay on top of things like every other student. One of his favourite memories with SWHAT is posting a story every night with the team.

Role: Dispatcher
Outside the office, you can catch him doing anything but studying. One of his favourite memories with SWHAT is all the games played during shifts, where he’s made lots of friends and competitive memories.

Program & Year: Honours Life Science, Level II
Role: Walker
Outside the office, you can catch her participating in team activities like playing board games and creating interactive content for SWHAT’s Instagram, helping build collaboration and maintain an engaged presence within the community 💗. Through her time with SWHAT, she’s learned the value of the role the team plays in the McMaster community, from helping students get home safely to fostering meaningful connections, new friendships, and a stronger sense of community engagement.

Outside the office, you can catch him hanging out with the team and bringing great energy to every shift. He loves the SWHAT community and the connections he’s built through his time on the team, and one thing he’s learned is how to lose with grace in Anomia.

Outside the office, you can catch him fighting for his sanity while writing endless lab reports 😥. One of his favourite memories with SWHAT is all the tea that gets spilled over a game of cards.

Program & Year: Honours Life Science, Level IV
Role: Walker
Outside the office, you can catch him at The Hub, either locked in or playing Clash Royale with his homemade RG deck going eight years strong 😤. One of his favourite memories with SWHAT is playing imposter in the office.

Name and Pronouns: Jasmine Ma (She/Her)
Program & Year: Nursing, Level IV
Role: Walker
Outside the office, you can catch her at the hospital, walking along the Cootes Trail, exploring new cafés downtown, thrifting, reading, drawing around campus, or just listening to music. One of her favourite memories with SWHAT is creating stories during shifts, including cramming herself into a cabinet for one shot, doing the Macarena, and the SWHAT bonfire where she got to meet so many people.

Hey McMaster! We’re excited to kick off our SWHAT Volunteer Highlights, where we’ll be introducing you to some of the incredible people behind our SWHAT team 🐾👟 Today we’re spotlighting a few of our amazing volunteers who help keep our campus safe every night.

Name and Pronouns: Bhuvangangaa Varatharajan (He/Him)
Program & Year: Honours Life Science - Origins of Disease, Level II
Role: Dispatcher
Outside the office, you can catch him biking along Hamilton trails, drinking copious amounts of caffeine in the MUSC Clubspace, or leading tour groups around campus. One of his favourite memories with SWHAT was during the most recent Welcome Week, when the vibes were completely different, no one had anything to stress about, and it was just super fun seeing everyone again after the summer.

Program & Year: Integrated Rehabilitation & Humanities (IRH), Level II
Role: Walker
Outside the office, you can catch him studying in the hospital cafeteria or heading to Ridgeway Plaza. One of his favourite memories with SWHAT is playing Anomia with the team during shifts in the office.

Program & Year: Commerce, Level II

Outside the office, you can catch him playing board games, recording the SWHAT story, or studying for exams. One of his favourite memories with SWHAT is beating Minecraft in the office with everyone on shift.

Outside the office, you can catch her “studying” on the second floor of Mills, which she calls her second home. One of her favourite memories with SWHAT is the two-week phase where everyone in the office was obsessed with playing Among Us.

Introducing our Volunteer Affairs Executive, Ishan! Ishan plays an important role in supporting SWHAT’s volunteers by helping foster a positive, welcoming, and connected team environment. He works closely with volunteers to ensure they feel supported and engaged throughout their time with SWHAT. In addition to volunteer support, he plans and runs SWHAT’s team socials and events, creating opportunities for volunteers to connect, unwind, and build strong relationships beyond their shifts. 🤝🎉

Elisha plays a key role in keeping SWHAT running smoothly by overseeing dispatch operations and supporting our walkers and dispatchers throughout each shift. She is also heavily involved in training dispatchers, helping ensure they feel confident, prepared, and supported when handling calls.
