The Woman Abuse Working Group (WAWG) is a coalition of more than twenty agencies in Hamilton, Ontario working to end violence against women.

WAVES, Woman Against Violence Empowering Survivors, is WAWG's survivor advisory group in Hamilton. WAVES members have been busy the past few weeks engaged in community events including the following:

Being panelists at "Beyond the Hurt: A Panel Discussion on Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Violence"

Tabling at the Annual Community Sexual Violence Conference hosted by

Attending WAWG's Anti-Human Trafficking and Sexual Violence Prevention Training

And hosting monthly 'EmpowHERing Me' workshops for survivors of intimate partner violence at the YWCA Safety and Support Hub.

Every year WAWG releases a snapshot infographic highlighting key trends and emerging concerns related to gender-based violence and s*xual violence in Hamilton.

Behind every statistic are women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals navigating impossible choices between safety, housing, and stability. Many survivors do not report these experiences due to stigma, fear, systemic barriers, and concerns that they will not receive the support they need and deserve.

To anyone experiencing violence, please know you are not alone. Services across Hamilton are available to support you whenever you are ready to reach out.

WAWG’s survivor advisory group, Women Against Violence Empowering Survivors (WAVES), also hosts monthly supportive workshops for women in Hamilton. More information can be found on our social media or by contacting [email protected].

WAWG hosted a community focused staff training to strengthen our collective response to s*xual violence and s*x trafficking with interactive sessions to equip participants with practical tools, prevention strategies, and concrete action steps to create meaningful change. Candace Morley, Michelle Wiley, Kyle Jarvie, Seydina Soumah, and Mirand Jurilj led fantastic workshops around s*x trafficking prevention and s*xual violence prevention. Many thanks to everyone who participated and supported this training!
