A public works employee helped save residents trapped inside a burning east-Hamilton home before firefighters arrived Wednesday morning. Crews were called to a house fire at Cope Ave. shortly after 7:10 a.m. Paul Toth, a senior customer care representative with Hamilton Street Railway, said he was waiting to cross Main Street E. when he noticed thick smoke near Cope Avenue and moved toward the scene, where a man emerged from the home. Toth, who helped ensure residents got out safely, says he was “just a bystander” and believes anyone would have done the same, while fire officials are praising his quick actions 🙌

Eighteen-year-old Kaitlin Jeffrey of Toronto is calling her recovery a “miracle” after suffering severe injuries in a fraternity house fire in London, Ont., where her face and hair caught fire. She was among students seriously burned in the incident. Burn experts at HHS used a world-first exosome treatment to help treat her injuries. Jeffrey underwent two treatments over several days, using one trillion exosomes sourced from the United States 😳 Dr. Marc Jeschke, who was part of the team, says the pioneering approach could mark a major breakthrough in burn care and future recovery for severe injury patients.
