Hamilton Police would like to thank our provincial partners at the Ministry of Transportation and Halton Regional Police Service for assisting with Commercial Motor Vehicle inspections conducted yesterday in the Waterdown area near Hwy 5 and Hwy 6.

Joint enforcement efforts resulted in:
• 52 commercial vehicle inspections
• 25 unsafe vehicles taken out of service
• 45 charges laid

Commercial vehicles can be taken out of service for numerous safety infractions, including:
• Required safety inspections not completed
• Faulty braking systems
• Insecure loads
• Faulty steering systems
• Improper tires
• Other equipment and safety violations

These inspections help ensure commercial vehicles operating on our roads meet required safety standards and help keep our community safe.

Operation Puppy Rescue!

While conducting speed enforcement on the RHVP, our officers discovered a frail looking puppy walking by itself in the heat. The officers were able to secure the puppy, however they soon discovered the puppy’s sister was also abandoned and too afraid to come close. The officers lured her in with pepperoni and they were both taken to safety!

Another unpredictable moment that these officers won’t forget!

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Griffin, a beloved retired member of our Mounted Patrol Unit.

Griffin, a 20-year-old Percheron cross gelding, was purchased in 2010 and proudly served with the unit from its inception. Over the course of 15 years, he played a steady and reliable role in our operations before retiring in 2025.

He will be deeply missed by all who worked alongside and cared for him. Rest in peace, Griffin.

Earlier this week, Constable Sorbara stopped a driver on Centennial Parkway who was travelling 147km/hour instead of the posted 70km/hour speed limit. The 17-year-old driver has now had their driver's licence suspended, their vehicle impounded, and some hefty fines to deal with.

Slow down, save lives!
