I know this is a bit different from what I usually post but I wanted to share a series of collages I made for a class at York. I created a set of images using photos of the city of Hamilton, which is so full of stories and character, even though it gets flack for being “rundown” and “trashy” by some people nowadays. I wanted to take the viewers on a small tour of the city through some notable areas in order to show it in a different light. The city itself is so diverse, with a broad mix of cultures and modern buildings dotted between vintage architecture. I made sure to capture everything from major landmarks to unique public artworks. This work tries to capture the vibe of each location and maybe show the viewers a side of the city they have never seen. I also included Ashinabewaki script on the pieces to acknowledge the Indigenous land that Hamilton is built on as well. Hopefully as young creatives begin to move back into Hamilton they will be able to breathe new life into a city with a strong heart that unfortunately succumbed to poor political decisions.
