PUNCH DRUNK is a fun, upbeat, end-of-summer track that demonstrates the indie-pop prowess that AlwaysUs. have carefully honed. The song can be interpreted in many ways but the group defines PUNCH DRUNK as a feeling of suddenly realizing you’re drunk when you shouldn’t be–from overconsumption of either alcohol or love. This feeling is commonplace in the summertime, hence the excited, shimmery, sunset feel to the track. The guitars are spaced out like the feeling of being joyfully intoxicated and the lyrics tell a story of a blurry Toronto night (that may have inadvertently turned into morning). PUNCH DRUNK offers that familiar, bittersweet, knowing that the summer–and all the good times that come with it–have to come to an end for a while. Whether or not you’re ready for autumn and its implications, PUNCH DRUNK is perfect for your evening drives or reminiscing about the one that got away.
