Thank you, The Corner Studio for including this piece in “It’s A Sign” as part of ArtCircuitHamilton. What a joy to see it among so much incredible and inspiring work.

About the quilt: As my mom struggled with late-stage dementia, I struggled with slowly saying good-bye as she faded away.

One thing that brought me comfort was keeping a list of her sayings. I used to think these phrases were silly, just Mom being Mom, but they suddenly held so much meaning.

She died last November and those sayings have been swirling around in my head ever since. Recently, one in particular has resonated with me at a soul level.

Whenever I feel overwhelmed with the uncertainty of life, I can hear my mom calmly say: “One step at a time.”

And so I created it as a quilted sign — a visual reminder to slow down, take a breath and trust the journey.

This is my quilt for this weekend’s PATCH: Hamilton Quilt Show!! Last year, I turned one of PATCH’s logos (designed by Slow Dance Studio ) into aSlow Dance Studioear I decided to make that idea my annual tradition. Haha!

My quilt is essentially this year’s PATCH poster (designed by Erin McPhee). This is suchErin McPheeshow and I want to commemorate it in my own small way. We’re so lucky to have incredible graphic designers on our organization team!

We processed all the quilts last night and, wow, this is one special show. So much textile talent in this city!!

PATCH is taking place this Sunday, between 1 PM and 4 PM at Corktown Park in Hamilton. More than 60 quilts will be on display and it is completely free. Find us at the basketball courts/outdoor quilt gallery!

I’m in a new show at Durand Coffee, curated by JAB! When I heard theme was “Upside Down,” I immediately thought of the children’s book “Inside, Outside, Upside Down.” So I decided to recreate one the book’s iconic illustrations in quilt form.

Thank you, Juliana, for including my work in this show and for always bringing out the fun, quirky side of my brain. You’re the best.

It’s hard to believe that the BUILT + QUILT opening reception was already a week ago! This space was packed out and it was such a magical evening.

I’m beyond excited to share that Natasja Bischoff and I have a show at Assembly Gallery this month!

BUILT + QUILT opens this Friday, August 7 between 7 and 10 PM at 486 Barton St. East. All are welcome to attend!

When we were installing the show, I was blown away by how our work reflects and compliments one other.

Natasja is inspired by the generations of artists and builders in her Dutch-Indonesian family. I’m also the kid of Dutch immigrants and I’m reflecting on life transitions in these quilts.

Here are some sneak peeks of the show. We would absolutely love if you can come see it in person!

When my mom passed away in November, I knew I had to take a road trip this summer to her favourite spot in PEI. So we packed up the van last week and ventured east with our anxious rescue dog, Stevie. (Of course I had to bring my lobster bib for a photo op!)

We’ve had the best time, visiting family and friends along the way. Stevie discovered she loves the ocean (she even got her paws wet) and horses (who knew?!?)

Best of all was seeing signs of my mom everywhere. Thinking of her reminded me to stop and delight in the smallest of things.

I miss her immensely, but my heart is full. Until next time, PEI ❤️🦞

More quilts all ready for next month! This is definitely going to be a quilt-heavy show for me. Haha!

These are whole-cloth quilt tops that I design, have printed and then quilt. They are abstract, but each one is inspired by a song and these two are “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “You Spin Me Round.”
