A look at part of the casing prep process.

For this project, the backband is pre-assembled to the casing using pocket screws before install. This keeps the profiles tight and consistent and allows the reveals to be controlled at the bench instead of being fine-tuned on the wall.

All casing is batch cut to streamline workflow and reduce unnecessary foot traffic on site, keeping things efficient and organized. Double biscuits are used at the miters for alignment and long-term strength, especially on larger profiles where seasonal movement can open joints over time. Each set is glued, assembled, clamped, and then sanded flush so the profiles line up clean and seamless before they ever hit the wall.

More work up front, but install goes smoother, miters stay tighter, and the finished product speaks for itself.

It all in the details.

Wrapped up this basement project a little while back. Nothing beats casing with a detailed profile (just my opinion)

At the end of the trim out stage the doors were removed and set up for paint. After the painting process the doors get rehung and handle hardware installed. Keeping hinges and handles crisp and clean.

Finished this project last week installing some transitional casing with backband. I used pocket screws and glued the backband to the casing, eliminating the process of cutting double the number of mouldings. It works super well. The other alternative is to just nail it directly to the casing but then you have the chance of cutting through nails. This way if you need to cut where a screw is you can always take it out which is much easier on the saw blades.

Here are some photos of the finished doors and trim at project Lakeshore. It was hard to pick just a few. These solid red oak doors all stained up look amazing. Paired up with a traditional profile moulding really completes the look.

Recently completed the installation of some solid red oak doors paired with colonial moulding in our latest custom home project. Can’t wait to see these doors with some stain on them!

Swapping out a set of old double pocket doors and one single on this basement wall project. They were replaced with flat slab solid doors machined on site, installed with concealed hinges and solid 1-1/4” poplar jambs. The backsides of the door jambs will be finished off with casing and the front with a flat-stock panel wall. Creating a wall with hidden doors.

Finished up the main floor for project Partridge a couple weeks back. 8’0” solid core, 2 panel doors were installed. Trimmed out with a 4” modern step casing back-band combo. A modern square architrave (head casing) glued and pocket screwed to the casing legs for a seamless connection. As well as some large windows with scribed jamb extensions trimmed out to match the doors.
