At the most recent General Issues Committee (GIC) meeting, the City of Hamilton’s budget was on the agenda. City councillors participate in GIC meetings monthly, with budget-focused discussions taking place annually between November and January.

We were disappointed to hear some councillors suggest cutting funding that has already been allocated to cycling infrastructure and associated programs. Ridership data from annual Pedal Polls, along with data shared by , along with the outstanding number of Bike Share delegations presented last April, all paired with the continued growth of the Hamilton cycling community highlight that budget cuts SHOULD NOT be made in this area.

We urge residents to contact their councillors to remind them of the value and importance of sustained investment in cycling infrastructure and to continue working toward the Active Transportation Master Plan.
