ISANS is a leading community organization that welcomes immigrants to Nova Scotia. We are the largest immigrant-serving agency in Atlantic Canada.

ISANS was created by the merger of Metropolitan Immigrant Settlement Association (MISA) and Halifax Immigrant Learning Centre (HILC) – together we have a combined experience of over fifty years serving immigrants in Nova Scotia. We offer services in an inclusive manner, respectful of, and sensitive to, diversity. We make partnership, professionalism and accountability a priority in every aspect of our work.

Building Nova Scotia’s future requires a strong and skilled workforce.

We were proud to celebrate the graduates of the Concrete Finisher Pilot Program alongside Dexter Construction Ltd. Through pre-employment, classroom, and hands-on field training, participants gained the skills needed to succeed in Nova Scotia’s growing construction sector.

As demand for housing and infrastructure continues to grow, programs like this help address labour shortages, support economic growth, and create pathways to long-term careers in the skilled trades.

Congratulations to all graduates and to Dexter Construction for retaining every participant as they begin the next chapter of their careers.

Investing in immigrant women is an investment in stronger communities, a more inclusive workforce, and a more prosperous Nova Scotia.

Today, participants from the ISANS Women’s Program attended the 2026 Wonder Woman Conference, where they connected with professionals, explored new ideas, and gained insights to support their personal and professional goals.

Opportunities like these are an important part of helping newcomer women build networks, develop confidence, access mentorship, and strengthen their participation in Nova Scotia’s economy and communities.

At ISANS, we are committed to creating pathways that help immigrant women realize their potential and contribute their talents, skills, and leadership.

When women succeed, families, workplaces, and communities grow stronger together.
