BMO Ride for Cancer
Hosted by QEII Foundation

Taking place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, BMO Ride for Cancer is the largest cycling fundraising event in Atlantic Canada. Participants, inclusive of veteran cyclists, recreational and rookie riders, ride their choice of distance options via the Rum Runners Trail or by the road.

Anick Lamoureux and Eric Valois are back riding for their seventh year on Team Cure Cyclers in this year’s 2026 BMO Ride for Cancer Grand Finale, while their children Lexie and Tyler will be cheering them on. 🚲

Since they began, this incredible team started by Anick and Eric and consisting of 76 riders over the years has raised an astounding $188,240.

Supporting cancer care has always meant a lot to their family, especially since Eric lost his mother to cancer in 2020. This year, the Cure Cyclers are gearing up for the biggest and best event yet with our Grand Finale, with a new motivation to raise funds. Last fall, Anick’s mother was diagnosed with a second form of cancer.

This month, our BMO Ride community is rallying to accelerate MRD (minimal residual disease) technology at the QEII, a way to detect microscopic traces of cancer that remain after treatment — long before they would otherwise be visible.

“This resonated with me. Thankfully, my mother’s cancer was caught early, and doctors were able to remove all the cancer which meant her treatment was much less intensive than it likely would have been if it had been found later […] it reminded me just how much of a difference early detection can make,” says Anick.

“I think it is important for Atlantic Canadians to also have access to the latest diagnostic advancements.” 💙

This month, help the Cure Cyclers and our BMO Ride community rally to accelerate MRD technology at the QEII, giving clinicians the ability to act sooner, smarter, and with greater precision — changing outcomes for patients and families across our region. Our first BMO Ride for Cancer Grand Finale goal is to raise $600,000 by June 30 to help accelerate the implementation of life-changing MRD technology at the QEII. 💙

What is MRD (minimal residual disease) technology? Using next generation sequencing technology already funded through BMO Ride donors, it analyzes blood samples on a genetic level so clinicians can detect microscopic traces of cancer that remain after treatment long before they would otherwise be visible. 🧪

This means an earlier detection of cancer recurrence, more personalized and precise treatments, reduced unnecessary treatments, and better survival outcomes and quality of life.

Help accelerate MRD technology at the QEII by rallying to reach our $600,000 goal by June 30, enabling clinicians to act sooner, smarter, and with greater precision — changing outcomes for patients and families across our region. Donate now: https://bit.ly/3Y7GlB0

Hey, BMO Ride community! You showed up, and it's showing. Together, we've already hit 26% of our $600,000 goal to bring MRD (minimal residual disease) technology to the QEII. Let's keep going to hit our goal by June 30. We've got this! 💙

Today on National Cancer Survivors Day, we recognize the many Nova Scotians and their families living with cancer including the recently diagnosed, those in remission, and the friends, family and community that surround them with support. We also honour the care teams who support Nova Scotians through their cancer care journeys. 💙

Over the years, our BMO Ride for Cancer community has played a big role in supporting cancer survivors by funding some of the latest cancer care and diagnostic technology at the QEII Health Sciences Centre – and this June, we’re accelerating that care one step further. Our BMO Ride community is rallying to raise $600,000 by June 30, 2026 to accelerate MRD technology at the QEII, a way to detect microscopic traces of cancer in the blood after treatment, long before a traditional scan can see them.

Let’s rally together to help provide Nova Scotian cancer survivors with earlier cancer recurrence detection, more personalized, precise treatments, and better survival rates.

Matt Benvie’s Turning 40 for the Fight event was a huge success! To celebrate his 40th birthday, longtime BMO Ride for Cancer participant Matt Benvie from Evolve Fitness held a stationary bike challenge to raise funds for this year’s BMO Ride. He was joined by Evolve Fitness Coach Amy Muench (“Coach Amy”), Evolve member Moira MacLean, and cancer survivor and BMO Ride for Cancer Ambassador Marcy Weston. 🚲💙

Together, they completed 40 km on stationary bikes, stopping every 4 km for a 40-rep fitness challenge.

Thanks to Matt and our surrounding community’s fundraising efforts and a generous anonymous match, he reached his $40,000 goal before he even broke a sweat. This milestone also helped push Team Evolve Fitness past $1 million raised across their lifetime participation in BMO Ride for Cancer.

But Matt’s not stopping here. This year, he’s raised $24,542 so far. With the anonymous donor still matching contributions (up to $40K), that brings the total impact to $49,074 and counting.

We're officially launching the first phase of our Grand Finale campaign with a goal to raise $600,000 by June 30 to help accelerate life-changing MRD (minimal residual disease) technology at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. 💙

Thanks to our BMO Ride supporters, the QEII already has a next generation sequencer — a critical component of MRD testing. By combining genomic sequencing with liquid biopsy technology, MRD technology can detect microscopic traces of cancer in the blood after treatment, long before a traditional scan can see them.

With our community, we've already started the journey to bring MRD to the QEII. Every day we accelerate funding is another day clinicians can move closer to bringing this technology to Nova Scotia patients. The sooner we get there, the sooner patients and families can benefit.

That's why the next four weeks are so important. Let's finish what we started! 🙌
