Do chiropractic adjustments always have to “crack”?

There is a common misconception that chiropractic treatment always has to involve “cracking” or making a popping noise. This causes many people who could benefit from chiropractic care to shy away from treatment. While chiropractors are very skilled at HVLA (high velocity low amplitude) adjustments that do make that popping noise there are so many different treatment options available!

Both Dr. D’Arcy and Dr. Brittany offer low force chiropractic treatment options which benefit mobility and alignment.

🔹 Activator - a chiropractic tool that offers very specific and gentle input to joints of the spine and extremities
🔹 Drop piece - a moving piece on the chiro table that allows for an adjustment with less force, often used for the sacroiliac joint
🔹 Toggle board - a smaller, portable version of the drop piece, often used to adjust extremities

Each patient’s treatment can be modified based on different health conditions or preference. We are happy to explore different options that work best for you to help you achieve your goals!

Tara and Erin are cheers-ing some sparkling kombucha today in celebration of a historic milestone for naturopathic medicine in Nova Scotia! 🥂✨

After years of work by many dedicated individuals, Naturopathic Doctors are now officially regulated under Nova Scotia’s Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).

This is an important step forward not only for our profession, but also for the patients and communities we serve. Regulation helps ensure consistent standards of education, competency, ethics, and accountability. It provides greater public protection through professional oversight and a formal process for addressing concerns, while giving patients added confidence in the quality and safety of their care.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their time, leadership, and advocacy to make this achievement possible.

Here’s to the next chapter of naturopathic medicine in Nova Scotia—and to continuing to provide safe, evidence-informed, patient-centered care for Nova Scotians. 🌿

We have big news to celebrate! Marie is now officially a licensed osteopath and a member of the Nova Scotia Association of Osteopaths (NSAO).

Many of you already know her as a highly experienced Registered Massage Therapist. She’ll continue to bring that same depth of care and skill to her work now with the added perspective and techniques of osteopathy treatment.

Osteopathy focuses on the body as a whole, helping to improved mobility, reduce pain, and support overall health through gentle, hands-on treatment.

We’re so excited for Marie as she expands her practice and is able to offer more to support your wellbeing.

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month so we thought we’d share some resources with you!

Unfortunately Lyme disease rates are on the rise everywhere, and Nova Scotia is no exception. A good way to prevent Lyme disease is to do our best to avoid being bitten by ticks!

Things you can do to prevent tick bites:
🔹Tuck your shirt in to your pants and your pants in to your socks
🔹Wear light coloured clothing (long sleeved shirts and long pants) so you can better see ticks crawling on you
🔹Avoid walking in long grass
🔹Use a sticky lint roller and roll over clothes/skin after coming in from outdoors
🔹Use PureGard spray. A Health Canada approved tick (and mosquito) essential oil based repellent, made right here in Atlantic Canada
🔹Shower after working outdoors
🔹Do full body tick checks daily

PCOS (Polycystic O***y Syndrome) is now known as PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome).

Why the rename? The condition involves so much more than ovarian cysts. PMOS includes insulin resistance, inflammation, fatigue, cycle irregularities, and metabolic health.

The goal is to better reflect the full-body nature of the condition. According to the journal article published in the Lancet (link in bio) “The name change will enhance awareness, diagnosis, care quality, research coherence, and patient experience, strengthening policy, advocacy, and health outcomes globally.”

PMOS looks different for everyone which is why individualized care matters and Naturopathic medicine can play such an important role in your care. The conversation surrounding PCOS → PMOS is about more than just a name change. It’s about improving awareness, validation, and support for people living with complex hormone and metabolic symptoms. You deserve care that listens to the whole picture! 💙
