We get heartbreaking messages like this in our inbox all the time:
"Hey, I was sexually assaulted by 2 male officers, do you happen to have any advice as to how I can defend myself? They charged me with assaulting an officer so they could put me in cuffs and mo**st me. They then said I was drunk (I wasn't), after they mo**sted and hit me, they made me go out to their car with no clothes, in my underwear, with no shoes. They said my parents wanted me removed from their house, but my parents never said that. They told me I had to go in a dark room (the front room) alone with the two cops. They told me I was a bitch. They then told me that I was under arrest for assaulting an officer. I was on the other side of the room and nowhere near him, so I was confused about why he would want to lie. He put me in cuffs. His partner touched my breasts as he held me in place. Then they switched, and the other cop touched me. They went out into the other room to tell my parents that I was violent and punched the cop in the face... of course I had never touched him, and my dad said "I don't think that is true" the cop said "We're taking her downtown to the jail." He said "why?" The cop said "she assaulted a cop." It later came to light to my parents how horrible these cops were. Cst # # # # # and Cst # # # # # , lied and said I hit them, so they could sexually mo**st me, and then they charged me with a number of absurd charges. We are working on pooling our funds to sue HRP for assault and sexual assault. I am hoping maybe there is some help for us. My therapy alone has cost us almost $1K at this point."

Well we are disgusted with the tactics of the Halifax Regional Police handling of the poorest and unhoused people in Halifax recently. The thugish approach to dealing with the outraged supporters set a terrible tone to relations with them. Shame on the Halifax Regional Municipality, the councillors and the police.
