this Saturday Dec.20th we are hosting a live jazz band show at Rooms Coffee | Listen featuring 𝘼𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣 ( .s.w ) playing some improvised Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop & Afro-Funk music.

𝘼𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣 consists of Josh Awe on drums, Shuvanjan Karmaker on bass (& samples) and Dilshan Weerasinghe on guitar. The ensemble explores improvisation based around groove, with particular attention to the sonic aesthetics of hip-hop in tandem with elements of African and South Asian diasporic music.

An unbound dialogue of groove and tone, seeking truth through a continuous improvisation where pulse, texture, and intuition converge into living sound.

Time flies, thank god and thank y’all we survived our first year in business. Here comes to our first anniversary of Listen! That’s something worth celebrating for sure, and as a DJ and dance music lover, I’d love to celebrate things a little differently this time.

Detroit’s own 𝟯 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 self-titled album and Demi Gods 12" limited copies available at the shop!

3 Chairs is a celebrated musical collective rooted in Detroit’s deep house tradition, originally formed in 1997 as a trio—comprising (Kenny Dixon Jr.), Theo Parrish , and Rick Wilhite before joined around 2003.

represents a convergence of Detroit’s deep-house brilliance, combining soulful textures, live instrumentation, and head-nod rhythms into a seamless, organic sound. Their work not only shaped the genre but also encapsulated the spirit of Detroit dance music—innovative, authentic, and deeply rooted in collaboration.

Finally got reissued after 2 decades, and I’m sure it will be out of print again soon, really not the ones to miss if you are a fan of Detroit house music!

all the way from Beijing, China, we just stocked up some really cool releases from in the shop.

bié Records is an independent, Beijing-based music label founded in early 2021, comes from the Chinese phrase “biéde (别的),” meaning “something else,” reflecting the label’s ethos of embracing the unconventional .

It’s a creative movement rooted in Beijing that amplifies boundary-defying, leftfield electronic and experimental music. Founded by Meng Jinhui (with contributions from Yu Su), it nurtures both established and emerging artists across China and beyond, prioritizing creative freedom, equity, and cultural exchange.

Huge shout out to our friend for putting all this together for us all the way from Beijing, China to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
