Back from the weekend? Two days of relaxing bliss? Here is what OUR team can accomplish in just two days! 🏋️‍♂️

Check out this near quality (ADU) we dropped into a Newmarket backyard, completely dried-in in 2 days.

Watch carefully and you will note that we wove the walls under and immediately adjacent to the canopies and trunks of two loved, mature trees. Planning and executing this placement was not for the faint of heart (right, Tara, Josh, Jon?!).

So many thanks to our friends at Tooketree Passive Homes Not only did we partner with them to produce these walls to our required specs but we actually embedded three of our core staff (thank you Michel, James, Josh!) for several weeks at their manufacturing facility, in order that we may contribute directly to the panels -site fabrication too! Our group declared that working alongside their staff was a lot like it feels within our own team: similar interests, shared values and a driving desire to do better in and for the world!

A tech enabled future is purported to hold out a lot of promise for this industry. Evolve is among these voices and among the emerging forces bringing massive change to a staid sector. Yet in the here and now, there are precious few examples outside of the lab, beyond theory, and put to actual practice.

One of those who have quietly been applying manufacturing techniques to construction practices is Evan Bare of Canada's own The Bunkie Co. Together with Evolve, we are combining forces to apply the techniques of their unique, precise fabricated backyard/back40 buildings and merging that with our own expertise to fashion a line of 's and micro-homes to market. Keep watch here for the prototypes ready later this summer!!!

Another of Evolve's partners, is thinking and acting even bigger...project sizes that is! Rapidly produced, affordably made, robotically framed detached homes and lowrise and will be flying out of our microfactories sooner than you might have imagined. More on this later (interest whetted?!)

With this context, it was tremendously exciting to join Evan to view a ready-to-move-in project conceived, innovated and constructed by developer Horizon Legacy. Using self-developed robotic 3D printing technology, wildly ambitious founder Nhung Nguyen's team fabricated the structural walls on-site for this multi-rental unit project. The result is something visually akin to a cross between and , honestly leaving the printed form visible throughout much of the interior and exterior of each unit. And my climate concerns about the cementitious material were defrayed when learning that their aim is to first reduce the portland binder and subsequently to replace it with clay, or biogenic binders. But first, they must - and have - demonstrated the basic technology before they can learn to improve it. Heard.

Thank you Claire Belerique for organizing and taking the time to demonstrate what the future...err, present...can look like, if we just try.

We got this show on the road! Evolve Builders Group Inc combined with Jim Campbell and Clearview Sustainability Network to take Passive Buildings Canada's popular "Boots on the Ground" speaker series out of the city and host it for the first time in Southern Georgian Bay region.

We were nervous. At a time when residential construction in Ontario has cratered, how many local policy makers, developers, building officials and of course and professionals might be keen to learn more about , building?

We needn't have worried: we sold out! More than 115 registrants with nearly a dozen regional and national sponsors, packed the perhaps too small hall to hear our three sets of curated speakers (always at least one representing each of the design world, the trades or supplier view and the owner perspective), touch the wares on display courtesy the sponsor mini-tradeshow and bump elbows with neophytes and experts alike.

So much interest! After I turned off the mic and attempted to wade my way back to our own booth, I never managed more than two steps before being stopped, engaged in conversation: key among the chatter (still more on this later!)

Thanks to The Bunkie Co. for originally rushing delivery such that we could start and complete this amazing project this past winter. And thanks now for rushing Spring (just a) little with an illustration of what it might look like when the buds sprout and blooms pop!

You've seen this project pop up quite a lot on our feeds lately and there's a reason. That reason goes beyond simply showing off a latest and greatest project that we can't get enough of. We feel it actually represents a piece of the puzzle in the evolution of digital construction in Canada. Yeah, kind of a big deal 🤓

First off, we're so proud of the Evolve Builders Group crew who assembled this 175 sqft Bunkie during the significantly cold Ontario winter. It's a testament to their resilience and demonstrates the capability of the Bunkie prefab kit.

We're grateful that Ben and his family have invested in this little space that seems to already have a big impact on their daily lives. When a super technical, environmentally centered, industry leading passive house builder specs your kit, it's a good day 😎.

So to mark the occasion, we worked with film maker David Hartman to follow the build crew and get an introspective understanding from the founders. Check out the youtube video about this first of it's kind permitted Monarch model that functions as a backyard office and overflow hang out space.

Boots on the Ground: Flexibility and future proofing: A case study in modern home hydronics 03/31/2026

A powerful one-two punch! This is the first video to drop from the "High Performance Design meets Boots-on-the-Ground" speaker series that Evolve Builders Group again hosted in Guelph on behalf Passive Buildings Canada.

This one features Stuart Evans P.Eng. for whose own family we had the recent pleasure and privilege of building their ultra-efficient new home. Further, we received an education from Stuart about how hydronics can be designed for both heating and cooling. Couple this with an air-to-water heat pump then you benefit from the ordinary energy multiplier effect of while basking in the comfort of radiant heat distribution and cooling in a combined system!

Tricks, products, design considerations and results are all captured in his excellent talk.

Liked this one?! Keep watch as we drop the second in the promised one-two punch...combine what you learn here with the potential of phase change thermal storage! More on that soon.
