We had such a fun time creating this issue! Got to eat (and then write about) smoky bbq, and artisanal Ontario cheese, and diner fare, and desserts, and so sons much more. This one’s our twenty-seventh issue - a milestone of sorts (because putting out any sort of popular print product these days deserves celebration!). Enjoy the read. And then the eats. Nom nom.

This is what (not quite) ten years of working on magazines looks like. From early publications for the to special one-offs for and and others to twenty-two issues (and counting) of TOQUE, we’ve been relentlessly and unapologetically dragging print into the present - and future. Here’s to another 42 magazines (but probably not 42 years). Thanks to everyone - but especially to our advertisers, contributors, editors and readers - for helping keep print alive in and around our region.

We’re super excited about the feature we’re writing about Atta and his business, Objekts, to appear in our upcoming ‘Handcraft Issue’, due out late November. If you’re into vintage, antiques, and European oddities, you won’t want to miss it.

Today we were lucky enough to get a tour through the Objekts ‘showroom’ - a 140-yr-old farmhouse packed with incredible historical finds. French tapestries from the seventeenth century. German paintings from the nineteenth century. Antique dolls and pots and glassware and so much other awesomeness. All for sale. If you don’t know about this place yet, it’s time you do. Read all about it in our ‘Handcraft Issue’ - due out in November.

Kitchener-based neo-nostalgic artist Trevor Clare is about to drop what’s certain to be one of the books on most everyone’s holiday gift list. ‘The Art of Nostalgia’ features 25 ‘studies’ of favourite Kitchener-Waterloo haunts - from Ethel’s Lounge to Harmony Lunch (RIP) and more. Paired with whimsical editorial bits, this book’s sure to be a banger. (The advance copy that we’ve seen was definitely on point.) Look out for a ‘Meet Your Maker’ profile on Trevor in our upcoming ‘Handcraft Issue’ - due out in November.

Next up: Taylor of Hand Hewn Workshop out of Fergus. Looking for killer leather goods like wallets, belts, key fobs & more? Then look no further. We’ll be featuring Taylor in a ‘Meet Your Maker’ spread in November’s ‘Handcraft Issue’. Don’t sleep on it.

We’re well underway working on our November release - ‘The Handcraft Issue’. And that means we’re busy chatting with creative types and shooting them at their places of work. This morning we got the chance to capture Guelph’s own Michelle Miller of MiMi Jewellery in her riverside studio. Look out for a spot in the November issue!
