Welcome to the team Tom Shives!

Tom brings 15+ years of experience across audiovisual, live production, and commercial AV integration.

His path into the industry started in 2005 after winning a high school battle-of-the-bands and asking a studio engineer to teach him how to run the console. That moment sparked a career that would grow from studio engineering to large-scale AV integration projects across Canada.

Tom’s expertise spans audio DSP programming, control systems, user interface design, rigging, and technical training. He holds an AVIXA CTS-I certification along with technical certifications from manufacturers including QSC, Crestron, Electronic Theatre Controls, Netgear, Shure and BrightSign, LLC.

We’re excited to have Tom’s experience and passion for AV technology as part of the Field Service Canada team.

Our team continues to invest in knowledge and hands on experience with Electronic Theatre Controls

Earlier this year, two of our technicians completed ETC’s comprehensive Lighting Technician Training, an 80 hour blended program featuring extensive online learning, in-person training, and a final examination with a focus on ETC control systems, product configuration, programming, and troubleshooting.

Continuous learning keeps our technicians equipped to deliver the best service and support to our clients across Canada.

We want to wish Ian a huge congratulations on earning his CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist - Design) certification 🎉

CTS-D is a major milestone in the AV and lighting industry, recognizing professionals who assess client needs, design AV systems, and produce the documentation that brings projects to life through strong collaboration and technical expertise. Ian completed both his CTS and CTS-D within the last two years, an incredible accomplishment in pro AV!

Ian’s achievement reinforces FSC’s commitment to ongoing learning, so our clients can count on thoughtful design, strong collaboration, and work done to the highest standard ⚡️

We’re so proud to highlight Charae Degrow as this year’s recipient of the Field Service Canada Award for Leadership & Innovation at Algonquin College�

From volunteering 50+ hours in live audio, to landing her first paid gig this year, Charae brings passion, purpose, and community spirit to everything she does.

Reflecting on this milestone, Charae shared that receiving this award “felt like a powerful affirmation of the path I’m on and gave me fresh motivation to keep going…I’m excited to stay rooted in the Ottawa community, performing locally and supporting fellow artists.”

As she continues her studies in the Music Industry Arts program, Charae is already planning performances for 2026 and preparing to release new music under her artist name Charae Alexandra, with her sights set on submitting for a JUNO.

We’re honoured to support her journey in the Music Industry Arts program. Her dedication, leadership, and commitment to empowering other artists continues to inspire.
