📚 What happens when a love of learning runs in the family?
For Carmen Nicholson and her daughters, Avalon and Kalista Heemskerk, education has shaped each of their journeys in different ways. One became a teacher. One is pursuing law school after studying anthropology. One is just beginning her own education degree.
Along the way, all three found themselves connected to Northwestern Polytechnic.
From balancing parenthood and post-secondary studies to returning to school as a mature student, their story is a reminder that there is no single path to learning and growth.

Big news for applied research at NWP.🗞️🔬🐺
Northwestern Polytechnic is part of P2INACLE, a collaborative network of Prairie polytechnics that has secured an additional $586,000 in federal funding to advance applied research and innovation across Western Canada.
The continued investment will help connect industry partners with practical research support while creating valuable learning opportunities for students.
“Through P2INACLE, Northwestern Polytechnic is proudly contributing to innovative solutions that help address real-world challenges while providing students with valuable hands-on learning experiences,” said Dr. Vanessa Sheane, President and CEO.
