June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

At IT Horizons and Saltmedia, working alongside Indigenous organizations and businesses is part of what we do year-round. These relationships are grounded in respect, trust, and a shared commitment to meaningful, community-focused work.

While we don’t always speak publicly about specific projects due to cybersecurity, privacy, and confidentiality requirements, we’re grateful for the partnerships we’ve built and the work we’re able to contribute to together.

We hear the phrase “in the cloud” all the time, but what does it really mean for your data? Every file, photo, or system you rely on lives somewhere, and someone is responsible for looking after it.

That’s where data stewardship comes in. Do you know where your data is stored, who can access it, and which laws protect it? Understanding these basics can help you make more informed choices and keep your data in safe hands.

Red Dress Day Matters

Today, May 5, is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit+ people (MMIWG2S).

As an Indigenous woman-owned business, Red Dress Day holds special significance for the Saltmedia team and our sibling company IT Horizons. It’s a time to remember those who are missing, honour lives taken too soon, and stand with families and communities and those we never met.

You can take time to learn more by attending a local event, reading and sharing information, or talking with family and friends about why this day matters.

Awareness helps build understanding, respect, and stronger communities.

🌍 Earth Day on Turtle Island 🐢

Today, Saltmedia would like to acknowledge Mother Earth and the teachings of Indigenous Peoples who have cared for this land since before time. Many Indigenous Nations know this place as Turtle Island, which is a reminder that the land is alive, connected, and deserving of respect.

Earth Day is more than one day. It’s a responsibility to protect the waters, respect the land, and think of the generations ahead.

As we reflect today, may we listen to Indigenous voices, learn from traditional knowledge, and take action to care for the Earth together.

🪶 Land, Water, Community, Responsibility!

Proud to Support Indigenous Leadership and Women in Tech

We’re proud to share that Angie Saltman, partner at IT Horizons and President of Saltmedia, is representing our team at the Indigenous Tech Conference this week in Vancouver.

Angie has been a leader in building Indigenous‑aligned IT systems, with nearly a decade of experience as a service computer technician before co‑founding IT Horizons. She's helped grow our managed IT services into a practice that prioritizes data residency, data sovereignty, and keeping Canadian data in Canada. She'll be on the Data Sovereignty Panel on Wednesday.

If you're at the conference (lucky you!), say hi to Angie!
