The game cribbage traces back to Sir John Suckling, a wealthy poet, soldier, gambler, and royalist during the reign of Charles I.

Back then, people were playing a card game called “Noddy.”
Suckling modified it, added the crib, refined the scoring, and turned it into something way more competitive.

And here’s the wild part…

He allegedly made a fortune teaching aristocrats how to play... then winning their money back at the table. 🫢

If you’ve actually had one, you’re legally required to tell everyone for the rest of your life.

Every cribbage player needs to hear this at least once:

You can’t score 19 points in a hand.

Not low.
Not rare.
Not “I swear I counted it twice.”

It’s mathematically impossible.

So if someone says, “I’ve got 19,” they’re either joking… or about to learn something new.

My skunks pull ahead!

Getting Skunked: if your opponent wins with a 31 point or higher lead, it’s called getting skunked! Your opponent will receive two points instead of the usual one! 🥳

If it’s 61+ points difference then it’s called getting double skunked! Equivalent to a three point win, I’ve rarely seen a double skunk. 🦨 🦨

Though I’ve heard of house rules that allowed for double skunking to count for 4 points, I play the standard rules of the 3 point victory.
