I had a very powerful burst if inspiration.
One of my favorite activities is camping.๐
Especially at night and even more so by a body of water. There's something really sinister and at the same time beautiful about lighting a fire in the deep dark of the woods right along the water.
I was playing with some Sumi ink and I poured it all over my watercolor paper and it did something really cool and it immediately made me think of smoke rising from a campfire along a body of water.
So I have two pieces underway! One is on thinner paper and the other is on thicker watercolor paper. I'm appreciating this journey. it's been a while since I've used gouache and I hope it gives you all that same feeling.

Vulnerable artist post incoming...
I can't draw everything. In fact, my focus has been landscapes or the like for so long that I really, really REALLY struggle with human anatomy and portraits.
Because my practice hasn't always been consistent I really struggle to complete them. Portraits or the human figure are not something that I choose to draw often because it's hard for me. It's so hard and as an established artist in some respects to feel bad at something art related.
It's a humbling experience so I'm hoping to make space for some daily practice and maybe one day I won't struggle and my portraits won't suck so bad. Also a friendly reminder that it's okay to be good at something and bad at something else doesn't make you less. So happy drawing or painting or whatever you choose to do today!
