The Port of Goderich is the only deepwater port on the east shore of Lake Huron.

Supporting regional mining, manufacturing, agricultural, and tourism industries, the Port is an important hub of commercial shipping in southwestern Ontario

The Saginaw is back at the Port of Goderich! Now sailing with Algoma, she’s the oldest Canadian laker still in active service. It’s great to have a classic laker stop in as there are only a handful left operating. If you missed her this time you’ll likely get another chance soon.

The Saginaw backing in for the second time this year, but first time under Algoma ownership. Some fabulous ship handling Captain Peter!

Last night Frank Hurkmans and I had a wonderful opportunity to discuss and advocate for the Port of Goderich with Ontario's Minister of Energy and Mines, Stephen Lecce, and Ontario's Minister of Rural Affairs, Lisa Thompson.

Thank you both for taking the time to listen. We look forward to continuing the conversation about the vital role the Port of Goderich plays not only for our region and the Province of Ontario, but for Canada's economy and supply chain.

Together, we remain committed to ensuring the Port of Goderich continues to grow and thrive for generations to come.

The training ship Playfair is back at the port of Goderich. This youth led program does sail and leadership training for teens. They are making their way back to their home port of Hamilton but will stay in Goderich until the weather calms down.

It's great to have tall ships visit Goderich. From harbour's establishment two hundred years ago to our integration into the rail network, commerce and travel relied on ships not so different for this one, moving a few hundred tonnes of cargo at a time. Now we routinely move around 20 000 tonnes per vessel at the port, but seeing this tall ship reminds us of the important history and legacy of working sail on the great lakes.

Check out Brigs Youth Sail Training for more information on this amazing program.

It's a good day to do some ship watching. We have the Algoma Buffalo loading salt, the Ontario Venture coming in for grain, and the Algoma Compass waiting for the space to load salt.

Ever wonder what goes on in the little hut on the South pier? That’s the port’s water level gauge! You can see the real-time water levels here: https://tides.gc.ca/en/stations/11860

The station is managed by the ministry of fisheries and oceans and they have many such stations across Canada.
While Goderich is a deep-water port, many of the destinations our cargoes get shipped to have draft restrictions limiting the tonnage ships can be loaded to. One of the many uses for stations such as these is to help vessels load to the maximum possible amount.

It's neat to see how much the water level of Lake Huron can vary depending on winds.

Lacey's Lens Photography was up taking some shots of the Port of Goderich. The bird's eye view of the Harbour is such a neat perspective!

Yesterday the first buttress caps were poured, marking an important milestone in the construction of the Agridome covering. For weeks now, our general contractor Vandriel Excavating Inc has been working tirelessly to chip, reinforce, and form these critical areas which will accept the loads from this large structure.
Thank you to the whole team working on this project. Your hard work and expertise is certainly showing amazing results!

Last night the Port of Goderich had our hundredth ship of 2026. The Algoma Buffalo was at dock 1 to load salt bound for Hamilton. We are now halfway to our annual goal of 200 vessels.
