📣 Changes to Hold Limits on Libby/Overdrive 📣

Starting August 3rd, the maximum number of holds you can place in Libby/Overdrive will change from 30 to 10. This change is designed to reduce wait times for everyone, ensure more equitable access to popular titles, and allow us to purchase a broader range of titles. You will get to keep all existing holds, but won’t be able to place new holds beyond 10 titles.

WHAT is changing?
➡️ The maximum number of Libby holds will decrease from 30 to 10

What is NOT changing?
➡️ The number of active loans (5) will remain the same
➡️ Notify Me tags remain unlimited

WHAT IF I have currently have more than 10 holds?
➡️ You won't lose existing holds, but can’t place more until your total is within the new limit
➡️ You can still borrow titles as usual even if you are over the hold limit

WHY is this change happening?
➡️ Long waitlists are frustrating for patrons & difficult to manage within our limited budget
➡️ A large portion of our digital budget goes to buying extra copies of popular titles to reduce wait times (which means we buy fewer new titles)
➡️ Libraries pay much more for eBooks than individuals buying retail (often 5x the price)
➡️ Many library eBooks expire after 24 months and have to be repurchased

TIPS
📚 Waitlists for PRINT BOOKS are almost always shorter than waitlists for digital titles
🏷️ Use the TAG function instead of holds to keep track of books you want to read ( https://help.libbyapp.com/en-us/categories/tags.htm )
⌚ Libby has an “Available Now” filter for eBooks and Audiobooks
💐 Returning an eBook early helps other patrons get it sooner!
