'Don't Take Me Alive', from the Steely Dan Album 'The Royal Scam' (1976), has a fantastic guitar intro by Larry Carlton. It's a well thought out solo with some sophisticated phrasing.
I was never a fan of this song. I never really listened to it all the way through. I didn't give it a chance. When I did I realized what an amazing guitar solo it has and what a great guitarist Ritchie Blackmore is..... Still not crazy about the main riff though.
It's hard to imagine how this song would have turned out if George didn't ask Eric to come in the studio to play on this song.
Not many people know of Robben Ford. He's an amazing guitarist and his music was a big influence on me when I studied music at University. I transcribed and analysed a lot of his guitar solos during that time.
