It’s been very busy rebuilding the flower farm after moving last summer. It takes time to build and is a labour of love. But we are starting to get a few late spring flowers blooming! Each year we should have a bit more blooming as plants mature and we add more.

And we got frost. Looking at the long range forecast I’m hoping this is the last one and I hope the blossoms on my apple trees are ok.

A just received a frost advisory for overnight tonight. We are around 2 weeks past our last frost date. This is a good reminder of why it’s a good idea to plant out warm weather plants according to the weather conditions, not the date on the calendar. Victoria Day long weekend which was last weekend is when we typically get the garden in. But this spring has been unusually cold. So I’m very glad I haven’t planted out yet as it will be easier to bring the seedlings in rather than trying to cover a garden my size! If you have planted out you can protect them by covering. And while I haven’t tried it, I’ve heard running a sprinkler on the plants will also protect them. But I’m going to cross my fingers that we don’t actually get any frost!

Busy time of year! Not only getting flowers in but also the vegetable garden. The front row of land scape fabric is for my gladiolus, but the rest of this area is my vegetable garden. I don’t usually use landscape fabric in the veggie garden but for the first time this year I’m planting 50-60 determinate tomato plants to try and grow enough for all my canning. I decided to put those in landscape fabric. The pick your own farms I used to go to just let them grow on the ground so I’m hoping this will keep the fruit off the ground to keep losses to a minimum.
