Janice Cher Desjarlais, who was known to friends and family as "Jazz" or "Jazzy," was 35 years old when she disappeared in Fort McMurray, Alberta, on October 1, 2010.

Janice was an Indigenous woman described as having long black hair, brown eyes, a heavy build, and a distinctive scorpion tattoo on her right leg. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a black jacket with a panther logo on the back and black pants.

In the early morning hours of October 1, Janice and her boyfriend climbed into a dumpster behind the Centre of Hope on Franklin Avenue to sleep after being unable to find shelter for the night. According to RCMP investigators, surveillance footage later confirmed that both entered the dumpster.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., Janice's boyfriend left to get coffee at a nearby McDonald's. Security footage showed him leaving the dumpster, but no footage ever showed Janice leaving. At 8:22 a.m., a garbage truck emptied the dumpster and transported its contents to the local landfill.

When her boyfriend returned about an hour later, Janice was gone.

After she was reported missing on October 3, RCMP launched an extensive search of the landfill. Investigators excavated an area reportedly the size of a football field and searched several metres deep over nine days. Despite those efforts, no trace of Janice was ever found.

Police have long believed Janice may have still been inside the dumpster when it was emptied, but because her remains were never recovered, her case remains an open missing persons investigation.

Before her disappearance, Janice had spoken about wanting to rebuild her life. Friends described her as someone who hoped for a better future despite the challenges she faced.

More than 15 years later, her family is still without answers.

Lorilee Mae Francis, also known as Lori-Lee Francis and Kelly Francis, was 23 years old when she was last known to be in Grande Prairie, Alberta, on October 20, 2007.

When Lorilee failed to contact her family over the Christmas holidays later that year, her loved ones became concerned and reported her missing. According to her family, staying in touch was important to her, making the sudden loss of contact highly unusual.

Lorilee was originally from Beaver River First Nation and was described by those who knew her as kind, approachable, loving, and full of life. Her brother Lance has said she was "a very happy person" who cared deeply about the people around her. She was also the mother of two children.

At the time of her disappearance, police stated that Lorilee was living what they described as a "high-risk lifestyle." Her case was eventually assigned to Project KARE, the RCMP unit responsible for investigating missing and murdered vulnerable persons in Alberta.

Over the years, there have been several possible sightings of Lorilee, but none have been confirmed. One of the most significant developments came in 2020 when a man contacted the family after recognizing Lorilee's story in an episode of Taken. He believed he had met a woman named Francis from Alberta several times in Montreal in 2015.

The information prompted Lorilee's family to travel to Montreal in hopes of finding answers. While searching areas including Atwater and Cabot Square, they received additional tips from people who believed they recognized Lorilee from missing person posters. Despite these reports, no confirmed sighting was ever established and her whereabouts remain unknown.

More than 18 years have passed since Lorilee was last heard from. Her family continues to search for answers and remains hopeful that someone, somewhere, knows what happened.

Araya Riemann was 20 years old when she disappeared from Lethbridge, Alberta.

Araya was last seen on March 25, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m., walking westbound along Brewery Hill toward the coulees. She was reported missing by her family on April 29, 2026, after they were unable to reach her.

When initial efforts to locate Araya were unsuccessful, the investigation was taken over by the Lethbridge Police Service Criminal Investigation Division.

Investigators have followed up on numerous tips, including reported sightings in Cranbrook, Red Deer, and Pincher Creek, however each of those reports was determined to be unfounded.

In June 2026, police conducted an extensive ground search of the coulees west of the Lethbridge Police Service with assistance from the Lethbridge and Area Search and Rescue Association and the use of a drone. During the search, investigators located personal belongings belonging to Araya, along with additional evidence confirming she had been in the area at some point. Despite these efforts, Araya was not found.

Police have interviewed family members, friends, acquaintances, businesses, and organizations Araya frequented, and have reviewed available surveillance footage. To date, investigators say there have been no confirmed signs of life since March 25, 2026.

Police have stated there is currently no evidence to suggest foul play, however they remain concerned for Araya's wellbeing. She is considered an at-risk missing person.

Araya is described as:
β€’ 5'2" (157 cm)
β€’ Thin build
β€’ Brown hair (often worn short and light brown)
β€’ Green eyes

Her mother has publicly shared a simple message for her daughter:
