We have officially marked 80 days since the opening of Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre!

The building opened to the public on Friday, January 27th, 2026. Since then, the facility has welcomed more than 168,000 visitors and generated 2,815 membership sign ups to date!

Happy Earth Day!

As we celebrate our beautiful planet, I was inspired by the incredible "Earthrise" perspective and the legacy of the Artemis II mission, which just saw the first Canadian fly around the moon.

This historic milestone only reinforces my commitment to protecting the green spaces and climate resiliency of our own beautiful home right here in the River Valley.

The decision was made to move forward with Affordable Housing on the second parcel at the Herb Link site in a 7-6 vote.

While this vote didn’t go the way I’d hoped, the debate brought a number of important conversations on:

- The impact and importance of public green spaces in neighbourhoods
- The value and need for affordable housing to be equitably distributed across the city
- A consistent and fair process for engagement with all communities

I will always continue to advocate for a truly equitable approach to our housing goals.

We’re making a clean sweep of it! From roads, boulevards, pathways and bike lanes, the City is sending out the sweepers.

Please give sweeping vehicles enough room to operate. Sweep your sidewalk debris onto the road beforehand. Move your vehicles during parking bans.

Every day, Edmonton’s firefighters step into chaos to stand with us in our moments of greatest need. It is a job defined by incredible sacrifice, and on Friday, I was honored to stand with them to celebrate the long and memorable careers of those reaching retirement.

While we recognize their years of service, we also hold space for the many who never had the chance to celebrate that milestone, honouring their legacy and the ultimate commitment they made to our city.

Thank you to the Edmonton Firefighters Union Local 209 for your unwavering dedication. You have always stood by us, and we are proud to stand with you.

We’ve heard directly from many residents who reached out to us to share their concerns about Lucy, and we wanted to take the time to talk through what we’ve learned.

We’ve listened to advocates, spoken with experts, and spent time with the Zoo’s animal care team. What matters most is making the decision that is truly in Lucy’s best interest.

Lucy is now in a geriatric stage of life. While there have been improvements in her health over the years, she is also living with chronic conditions, and relocating her would come with serious risks.
She has spent nearly her entire life in Edmonton and has strong bonds with her care team. While moving her may feel like the right thing to do, it is not what is best for her at this stage.

We also recognize that standards have evolved, and Lucy’s story should help guide how we care for animals in the future.

We encourage you to read our full joint statement and stay informed as we continue to share updates.

Over the years, many Edmontonians have raised questions about Lucy and her wellbeing at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. These conversations come from a place of care, and we share that same belief that animals deserve dignity, compassion, and the best possible quality of life.

In recent months, we have taken time to listen, meet with advocates, speak with the Zoo’s animal care team, and visit Lucy ourselves. What is clear is that Lucy is now in a geriatric stage of life and requires specialized, ongoing care. While there have been improvements in some areas, she is also experiencing the realities of aging.

At this stage, relocating Lucy would introduce significant stress and risk to her health. Based on the information available and expert care plans in place, we support her remaining in Edmonton, where she is cared for by a dedicated team in a familiar environment.

We remain committed to ensuring Lucy is treated with compassion, respect, and dignity, and we support continued transparency and investment in her care.

Today I formally submitted a letter to the Edmonton Police Commission to address serious operational gaps at the Edmonton Police Service tow lot. As our city grows, the current facility has reached a capacity limit that is now directly impacting public safety and municipal enforcement.

I am advocating for the relocation of the tow lot to be prioritized as a key capital project in our upcoming four year budget.

The Impact on Public Safety

The data is clear: parking enforcement requests have risen by 45 percent over the past two years. Because the current lot is full, there is a backlog of 560 vehicles waiting to be impounded. This lack of space creates a bottleneck that prevents officers from effectively responding to enforcement needs across Edmonton.

Protecting Our Neighborhoods

Beyond enforcement capacity, the current location is no longer viable due to the Yellowhead Freeway Conversion Program. Design changes mean that approximately 180 vehicles, including heavy tow trucks, are now routed through the heart of the Prince Charles community and a playground zone every day.

My advocacy centers on finding a larger, more strategic site that improves policing efficiency while removing industrial traffic from residential streets. Relocating the tow lot is a practical solution that will improve service levels for all Edmontonians and ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with the needs of our community.

This week, City Council will determine the fate of a First Place Program site in Dunluce, where I will be bringing forward a motion to permanently designate this land as park space.

While Ward Anirniq has stepped up to host the second-highest concentration of housing projects in Edmonton, we must ensure affordable housing is distributed equitably across the entire city rather than concentrated in a few neighborhoods.

Protecting the quality of our green space is about fairness and ensuring that communities like Dunluce aren't asked to compromise their local amenities without a transparent and balanced process.

As we look toward the next four years, Council’s strategic priorities are more than just goals, they are a commitment to building a city that is fiscally sustainable, affordable, and relationship-driven.

From prioritizing essential infrastructure renewal and equitable transit growth to ensuring our services like snow clearing meet the 'winter reality' of Edmonton. These priorities focus on getting back to the basics and doing them well. I am fighting for a budget where every dollar invested translates into safer, more reliable neighborhoods and a higher quality of life for everyone in Ward Anirniq.

I’ve officially added "Chief Wellness Pawfficer" to my resume, which mostly involves knocking pens off Erin’s desk to remind her that even a City Councillor needs a play break.

Happy National Pet Day to all the furry friends in Ward Anirniq. May your humans give you extra scratches and treats today!

Today, the flags at City Hall are flying at half-mast to mark the National Day of Remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

On this day in 1917, all four divisions of the Canadian Corps fought together for the first time, their triumph came at a staggering cost, but it is often cited as a defining moment in our country’s history.

We remember over 3,000 Canadians who gave their lives at Vimy, and the thousands more who were wounded. We also honor the local veterans and service members in Ward Anirniq who continue to uphold this legacy of service, dedication and sacrifice.
