Josh Miller’s latest project is bringing a powerful moment from history to life—and earning him recognition as the 2026 Earl Parker Award recipient.
In The Speech, Josh uses animation, humour, and storytelling to explore how to confront antisemitism without amplifying it. Inspired by a real-life moment involving Theodore Roosevelt, the film speaks to challenges that feel just as relevant today.
Alongside his creative vision, the project has also attracted notable talent, including acclaimed actor Elliott Gould.

As Shabbat approaches, we’re reflecting on a feeling many have shared in recent weeks — that this moment feels different.
In this week’s message, Becky Saegert explores what’s behind that shift: a growing sense of momentum, connection, and possibility as we look ahead.
From thoughtful conversations to meaningful engagement across the city, people are stepping forward in new ways. That energy is helping bring the Oshry | Kipnes Jewish Community Centre to life—not just as a building, but as a place where connection, learning, and belonging can grow.
Opportunities like this don’t come along often. When they do, they invite us to consider how we want to be part of what comes next.

Alma and Ofri will soon arrive in Edmonton through the Jafi ShinShinim program, joining the Jewish community for a year of service, learning, and connection.
Before they begin working with schools, synagogues, and community partners, we had them play This or That because what better way to get to know someone than discovering if they are a coffee all day person or a tea all night type.

Prime Minister Carney’s address acknowledged the escalating antisemitism affecting Jewish Canadians, but the government’s decision to introduce a new Ministerial Advisory Council to “combat racism and hate in all their forms” has raised serious concern about delaying the focused action this moment requires.
Jewish communities across the country are calling for measures that address the threats we are facing now, not another process that postpones enforcement and accountability.
Our Federation was proud to join others from across Canada and CIJA in signing an open letter urging the government to move forward with immediate and practical steps to confront antisemitism and ensure community safety.
