Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We're taking time to listen, learn, and reflect, and to honour residential school Survivors and remember the children who never returned home.

Fourteen Edmonton film and TV creators spent September investing in their careers, at industry events and through professional development close to home.

Local organizers kept the community connecting too, with a game jam, a brunch, and a film festival on the way.

Our first Creative Screen Business Summit happened this weekend, and Edmonton's screen industry showed up for it!

Two days of panels, pitch reviews, and one-on-one conversations, film, TV, and video game industry professionals talking through the business side of this work.

Huge thanks to Edmonton International Film Festival for co-presenting alongside their 40th anniversary celebrations, to every speaker and pitch reviewer who carved out time for this, and to the volunteers who kept the whole thing running smoothly behind the scenes.

Last year, Sarah Taylor was selected as an Elevation Program recipient. 🎬 This month, her debut feature documentary premieres at Calgary International Film Festival - CIFF.

Invisible Imagination, made with co-director Anna Cooley, comes from more than twenty years of Sarah's work as a film editor, and from something most people wouldn't expect from that career: Sarah has aphantasia, the inability to visualize images or memories in her mind at all. Through interviews with other aphants and researchers working in the field, the film tells Sarah's story from the inside out.

Invisible Imagination has its world premiere at the Calgary International Film Festival on September 29, with an Edmonton screening following November 14 at the Broad View International Film Festival.

"Having Edmonton Screen's support gave Invisible Imagination the space to grow from an idea into a finished film," Sarah says. "It's the kind of belief in a local story that lets a filmmaker take real creative risks."

What a weekend at The Mosquers! 🎬 Congratulations to Mosquers Film Festival on 20 years, and to every filmmaker who shared their work in Edmonton.

Four days of premieres, short films from Muslim filmmakers around the world, and Saturday's Awards Gala made for a weekend to remember.

Opening night started with the Mosquers Incubator. Areeha Mahal, Sarah Stupar, Azria Khan, and Elwaad Osman spent seven months making their short films with industry mentors, and on Thursday they premiered them to an Edmonton audience.

Edmonton Screen is glad to support the Incubator, and we can't wait to see what these filmmakers make next.

Local producer Sheena Rossiter, an Elevation Program recipient, and director Sandro Silva, co-founders of Dona Ana Films & Multimedia, are bringing the documentary back to Edmonton for a FREE public screening.

The evening runs from the screening into a live Q&A with the director and documentary participants, then a reception with refreshments and a DJ in the Allard Hall atrium.
