When choosing an electricity or natural gas plan in Alberta, you may come across two common options: fixed and floating (variable) rates. So, what's the difference? Here is a quick guide to navigating Alberta’s energy market.

Because Alberta operates a deregulated energy market, consumers can select the energy plan that best fits their risk tolerance:

🔵 Floating Rates (Variable) Floating rates fluctuate based on market demand, weather conditions, and generation mix (natural gas, wind, solar, and hydro). Because power generation fluctuates—like solar output shifting seasonally or sudden cold snaps driving heating demand—floating rates carry higher short-term unpredictability.

However, floating natural gas has recently offered lower average prices, making it a viable cost-saving choice for low-volume users or flexible businesses so long as you can tolerate occasional market fluctuations that can result in considerable price shocks. Large commercial consumers often mix both options, utilizing fixed prices for base loads and utilizing floating rates for excess consumption.

🟢 Fixed Rates (Predictable) Fixed rates provide cost certainty. Your energy rate stays the same for the duration of the contract term. This provides greater price control and makes it easier to plan your energy budget.

So, which one is better? There isn't one answer for everyone. It all depends on your tolerance for risk and your ability to tolerate volatility and potential price shocks. For some households and businesses, price certainty is the priority. For others, accepting some market risk may create opportunities to reduce commodity charges. For larger commercial customers, a data-driven fixed, floating or mixed procurement strategy can help balance price and risk based on actual consumption and business needs.

Looking for reliable fixed rates? 8760 has you covered. We offer transparent 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year fixed energy terms for small businesses and households with no hidden fees. ✅ Rates as of September 1, 2026:
- Home Energy Program: Starting at 7.08¢/kWh for electricity and $3.28/GJ for natural gas (1-year fixed).
- Small Business Program: Starting at 7.68¢/kWh for electricity and $3.88/GJ for natural gas (1-year fixed).

September is here again, and Apple has unveiled its new iPhone 18 lineup at its “Surprise and Shine” event! For the first time, Apple CEO John Ternus introduced the new iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo. Everything we expected. Everything that had already leaked. So, where are the innovations, Apple?

Let’s start at the beginning.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are mostly incremental upgrades over last year’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The phones have a similar look and feel to last year's 17 Pro and Pro Max, but get faster A20 Pro processors with improved CPUs, GPUs, and neural engine upgrades for running everything from games to AI models. The batteries are also updated, with the 18 Pro getting 24 hours of charge and the iPhone 18 Pro Max getting 30 hours. They also come with a variable mechanical aperture for better control of light and depth.

Unfortunately, the successor to the best-selling iPhone 17 wasn’t launched this September and is now expected in early spring 2027. We’ll keep an eye on it and keep you updated!

But we believe everyone was waiting to see what Apple would do with the innovative iPhone Duo — the first foldable iPhone ever. We’ve seen foldable phones before, from Nokia in the early 2000s running Symbian OS, and in 2019 Samsung launched the Galaxy Fold on Android. But what did Apple do differently?

While foldables have existed for years, Apple’s entry aims to redefine the category. Duo features a passport-like design that opens and closes like a book. Up front, the device sports a 5.4-inch display. Open the phone to reveal a massive 7.6-inch display that's ideal for watching movies, playing games, doing work, and multitasking.

Looking to upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, or iPhone Duo? Before you run to the Apple Store or start searching the internet for offers from carriers, check out the 8760 Device Upgrade Program.

We offer unbeatable upfront prices on brand-new devices. No financing. No leasing. Just real ownership from day one. An eligible phone plan with $0 monthly device payments is required.

You can already get access to some of our best prices on Apple devices:
📱 iPhone 17 Pro 256GB — $682

Do not delay! You have only one week left to take advantage of the current iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max offers.

Retailers accept thousands of card transactions every month at the storefront and online. Between managing daily operations, hiring, and customer service, few business owners have time to line-audit their monthly merchant statements or compare interchange fees. At the end of the day, you just need a POS setup that works—and processing fees that don't drain your profits.

Navigating card acceptance services is complex. Dozens of providers offer signup bonuses, discounted terminals, and "all-in-one" promises. The challenge? Most sales reps push hardware without understanding your actual transaction volume, card types, or software requirements. As a result, many businesses pay monthly fees for apps, terminals, or processing tiers they never use.

That’s where 8760 makes a difference. With over 20 years of experience in payment processing, our goal isn't to sell you equipment you don't need. We help you find the right, tailored solution to elevate your POS setup and regain cost certainty.

✅ We start with a complimentary statement review. 8760 Card Experts analyze your current statement line-by-line to identify if you are being overcharged. If your current rates are already optimal, we'll confirm it. If you're overpaying, we'll show you exactly where you can save.

We will also review your current payment environment to determine if our Clover solutions can help improve the efficiency of how you get paid – maybe there is a better way. No high-pressure sales — just payment efficiency, ongoing support, and peace of mind.

8760 works with clients for the long term, providing ongoing support and guidance as their businesses grow and scale. We win when our clients win.

Recently, Meta announced a $13-billion AI data center project in Sturgeon County, just northeast of Edmonton. A new report by the Pembina Institute projects that between 2027 and 2031, residential electricity bills in Alberta could rise by $267 to $462 per year (a 15% to 25% increase) due to grid pressures.

For at least its first year of operation, the data center will draw power directly from the Alberta electricity grid—using almost as much power as the city of Calgary—before its dedicated power plant comes online in late 2030. This surge in demand is expected to increase wholesale electricity prices across the province.
