It is with intense pleasure that I invite you to listen in on my conversation with on our podcast, The Bookshop Chronicles. Many of you will know how much we at DCBC appreciate Bobbi’s debut novel, “The Good Women of Safe Harbour”, and how thrilled we were to see her latest book, “The Brink of Something Beautiful” on The Booksellers’ List. Two incredible reads by a writer from Nova Scotia that we cannot recommend enough.

Bobbi is genuine and bold, and this discussion felt like hanging out with a friend I’ve known for much of my life. Please listen, share, and then visit your local indie bookshop to grab copies of these books!

This courtyard has hosted countless photoshoots and videos. It has held lineups up the stairs and brides coming down the stairs.

When the sun shines on it, and you feel the warm breeze leading you into the bookshop, it feels like happiness. Even if today may be cloudy, the warmth and coziness of the courtyard feels like leaving the world behind and stepping into something wonderful.

Today is HERO Day, the 1st Thursday of the month, when we celebrate teachers with 20% off books. And tonight we have Book Club, what a fabulous day!

Seriously, there is never a bad day in the bookshop. See you soon!!

I was being interviewed today by a thoughtful and inspired student who brought up so many Daisy memories. I told her about this post from and I thought I would share it with you!

“So, this was a full circle moment.

Last week, a film crew was working on a “small town America” holiday rom-com nearby and they parked one of their set & supply trucks in front of our store to unload Christmas garlands and trees.

In 2018, I parked the booktruck there because I was attending a pop up market. Vendors were set up inside Maina’s, and . I had been asked to bring the booktruck and park out front. Eager to take Daisy anywhere, I said yes. But it was October and the temperature was too cold to be outside, so it was a non-event for this bookseller.

I closed the truck and visited the inside market vendors. Bought a leather bracelet from that I am wearing right now.

Then I saw next to Maina’s a vacant space. I put my face closer to the window and cupped my cold hands around my eyes to see inside better. I took photos of the exterior and texted Hubs “do you think one day we can get an address as well as a licence plate?” We checked out the space, determined that it was far too big and we had no right to be that ambitious so early. A bookshop on wheels was risky enough.

Fast forward to 2022 and I was doing deliveries in Beaumont and saw that the space was still vacant. On Main St. In a beautiful building with great companion businesses. And we were considering a second location. 🤔

Now we call it home.

Seeing the film props truck in front of my store took me right back to the wide-eyed dreamer with her cold hands cupped around her eyes, wondering if it could possibly work.

I looked down at the bracelet on my wrist, shook my head, and took this photo. It’s an incredible adventure to not know what the next chapter holds.”

Thank you to Elle Kennedy’s publishing team at for not only adding the series NUMBER to the spine, but also differentiating the series by NAME. Yay!!

It’s a small thing to ask, but can we please see more series numbers written on book covers? Louise Penny’s Gamache series, do you hear us? It’s funny how kids’ books have numbers, and some Fantasy series do as well, but so many adult books lack the cover information to tell readers what order they should be read in! At DCBC, we include the series number on our price label because it is often missing from the cover, and we want readers to have as much information as possible.

As readers, we tire of getting the wrong book, foolishly feeling like we are coming late to the party as we read and don’t understand what’s going on. We want to read them in order - please put numbers on the covers!!

Thank you.

People wanting to weigh in and offer commentary on your reading life or tell you that you have too many books can just sit down.

Reading is a precious, beautiful thing, and your optimism for one day getting to the unread books on your shelf should be honored. We need more optimism in this world!

Actually, you’re so wonderful, you should reward yourself with a book. Congratulations!

Sometimes you read about a character that is so unhinged, so obsessed, so unbelievably focused that it stays with you and you can’t shake it.

Sky Daddy by Kate Folk is not what I thought it would be. So, I am not going to say much about it. Best to go in with innocent curiosity. I will say that one of our book clubs talks about it each month and we all have a shared opinion. The writing is great and I came away fascinated with Folk’s uncanny ability to, well… read it and we can talk about it.

As we prepare to host a Bridal Shower for a large group this weekend, I am reminded of the number of wedding couples who have posed and celebrated their love story in our bookstore.

Forget the tropes and spice. THIS is romance! 💕
