Doing a check in post, on a scale of 1 to 10 how is your heart today?

You asked. We're answering. π¬
β"What if I can't afford it?"
β Let's talk. There are options, supports, and we work with people to figure it out.
β"What if I relapse while I'm there?"
β We handle it with compassion and a plan. Not a door slam.
β"Can I have my phone?"
β Yes. We're not a jail.
β"What if I don't get along with the other residents?"
β Conflict resolution is actually part of the programming. Real life skill.
β"Is there a curfew?"
β Yes β because structure saves lives. And you'll thank us later.
β"How long can I stay?"
β This is a conversation based on where you're at. No one is pushed out the door.

Why does willpower alone almost never work for addiction recovery? π§
Science answer:
Addiction rewires your brain's reward system. Your prefrontal cortex, the part responsible for decision-making, gets hijacked.
So "just stop" is like telling someone with a broken leg to "just walk."
What ACTUALLY works:
β
Environment change (removing triggers)
β
Routine (rebuilding neural pathways)
β
Community (mirror neurons, we literally become who we're around)
β
Accountability (external structure while the brain heals)
This is exactly what structured sober living provides.
This is why 8 Pillars works.
This is why your willpower isn't weak, your environment was just working against you.

To every person who made it through another week:
We see you. π
The week that tested you.
The moment you almost didn't choose it.
The craving that came out of nowhere on Tuesday.
The hard conversation you had anyway.
The morning you showed up when you really, really didn't want to.
You did it.
Another week.
Another set of days that are yours.
Another week your body is healing.
Another week your mind is clearing.
Another week your family can count on you.
You are building something. Brick by brick. Day by day.
And at 8 Pillars Edmonton, we see every single brick.
Keep going. We're right here with you. π

Edmonton. π
We've been showing up on this page every single day because someone needed to.
Someone needed to say:
"Recovery is possible here."
"Help exists here."
"You are not alone here."
We are 8 Pillars Recovery Foundation.
And we are making a promise to this city:
β We will never stop building homes where people heal.
β We will never stop showing up for families at the end of their rope.
β We will never stop celebrating every sober day like it's the championship.
β We will never give up on a single person who walks through our doors.
This is not just a business.
This is a MISSION.
Edmonton, we are here. We are growing. We are not done.

I want to share something a mother told me last month. ππ
I drove him to the door. I didn't go in. I sat in that parking lot for two hours after he went inside.
Part of me was terrified. What if this doesn't work either? What if I'm getting my hopes up again?
And part of me, the part that had been holding its breath for three years, finally exhaled.
He texted me that night. Just four words: 'Mom. I'm okay here.'
I ugly cried in my car. Those four words were the most beautiful sentence I'd ever read.
He's been at 8 Pillars for five months now. He called me last Sunday, not because he needed money, not because something was wrong. Just to talk. Like before.
I don't know what tomorrow brings. But I know my son is safe tonight. And that is everything.
This is why we do this work. For the residents, and for the families exhaling in parking lots.

8 things we ACTUALLY believe at 8 Pillars π
1. Nobody is too far gone.
2. Shame has never saved a single person.
3. Community is the medicine.
4. Structure is freedom in disguise.
5. Your worst chapter doesn't decide your story.
6. Recovery gets to be joyful, not just sober.
7. Families heal when the person heals.
8. Everyone who walks through our door deserves to be fought for.
This isn't a tagline. This is how we operate every single day in Edmonton.
