Trace Italian is a psych-pop band from Edmonton, AB
that blends experiments with noise, instrumentation, and form with classic 60’s hooks and songcraft. The band is led by songwriter Sean Newton, with Kelsey Wood and Riley Chernoff contributing on the bass and drums, respectively. The resulting music is a kaleidoscopic melding of 60’s baroque pop, 70’s power-pop, and 90’s indie rock.

Our Story
Trace Italian is a psych-pop band from Edmonton, AB that blends experiments with noise, instrumentation, and form with classic 60’s hooks and song craft. The band is led by songwriter and producer Sean Newton, and features a rotating cast of musicians that contribute to recordings and live shows. Their tunes are a kaleidoscopic melding of 60’s baroque pop, 70’s power-pop, and 90’s indie rock that can be psychedelic and technical, or whisper quiet and intimate.
Their debut album “Down in the Weeds” came out in September 2019. The LP was preceded by the off the cuff “Tape Songs EP” in Summer 2019 and two EPs from a previous, more rock-ish lineup.
