Another watercolour cat! I start out with a pencil sketch to get the major shapes laid out using an oval with a t shape. I like to paint the darkest spots first using lighter colours and then go over and layer them as I go on to preserve the lighter areas. I love using white acrylic paint to add highlights and go over darker areas that I may have painted but should stay lighter. It really makes the artwork pop as the contrast is so necessary to capture one's attention. Afterwards I let the piece dry and then scan it using my Epson ET-8550 which has a 600 dpi scanner. The scanner is limited to around ~8.5 x 11 in sizes. Even though I prefer painting large canvases (as it's easier to paint finer details) and can't use the scanner for those, I really love how good the scans turn out when I am able to use it. Enjoy my progress photos, the reference, and stay tuned for more 🙂

Watercolour sketching my cat w/ .co !!!
This ended up being anatomy practice of a male figure. I was mainly concerned with putting as many muscles in their correct place as I could remember (~15 mins). Just a simple standing pose with his left arm raised up. I like using pencils because I like to scribble when I draw and it makes good gradients/it's easy to erase.
Just figure sketching ツ (8:47)

Wow this has to be one of my greatest accomplishments ever. What an honour to be featured in the nâpêhkâsowinowâk ᓇᐯᐦᑲᓱᐃᐧᓄᐊᐧᐠ exhibition at the Art Gallery of Alberta alongside other brilliant, talented, hardworking, amazing Indigenous artists.
From October 25th, 2025 - January 25th, 2026, "*nâpêhkâsowinowâk* invites visitors to reflect on what courage, resilience, and warriorhood look like in a contemporary context, challenging preconceptions while honouring the unique perspectives of a new generation." - from the website.
My portrait paintings come from recognizing emotions in the faces of talented musicians I enjoy listening to and feeling so connected with them that I must honour this emotional expression by painting portraits of them. This experience makes me feel so proud, valued, and optimistic about pursuing what I love and enjoy which is painting and drawing portraits that capture and express powerful emotions in visual form.
Thank you everyone for your support in any way, shape, or form. It is wholeheartedly appreciated.
