This week we recognized the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

Our students engaged in lessons and conversations around kindness, belonging, and the importance of making sure every child feels valued and cared for.

Together, we read 'With Our Orange Hearts' by Phyllis Webstad and created special artwork inspired by its message. Here's a little look at how one of our classes reflected on this learning through art.

Jumpstart Families, want to better understand how children learn to read?

We wanted to share a FREE public session in Edmonton that may be valuable for families with young children across Edmonton and surrounding communities.

This session is not just for families concerned about dyslexia. It is an opportunity to learn more about how early reading skills develop, what helps children become strong readers, what early signs to watch for when reading development is not progressing as expected, and how families can support literacy at home.

The session is led by Alicia Smith, Executive Director of Dyslexia Canada, and will also help families better understand dyslexia and why recognizing reading difficulties early can make such a difference.

Whether your child is already showing an interest in letters and sounds or is just beginning their reading journey, this is a great opportunity to learn more about how reading develops and how we can give children a strong start.

We've been a little quieter on here lately, and for a very good reason. The past couple of weeks have been all about orientations, welcoming our new students, getting to know our families, and helping everyone settle into the start of a brand new school year!

One of our first activities was a simple but meaningful craft focused on the first letter of each child's name. Students worked on their fine motor skills while connecting learning to something very special and familiar. After all, the first letter of your own name is one of the most important letters you'll ever learn! Our students were so proud of their work, and we love seeing their little masterpieces displayed for everyone to enjoy (and some of them attached here for you to enjoy!) 🤩

It has been wonderful getting to know our students and families, and we're excited for an amazing year of learning ahead!

🎉 The new school year is almost here!

Our Meet & Greets begin Monday, August 24, giving students and families a chance to meet their educators, see the classroom, and connect with classmates before regular programming begins.

This will be followed by an initial 1-to-1 meeting with your child’s educators as we begin our transition period and help students ease comfortably into their new classroom routine.

Please check your email for your assigned Meet & Greet day and time, and make sure you have signed up for an initial assessment appointment.

Meet Cody Cat and the beginning of something completely new at JumpStart.

This September, students will be introduced to our new JumpStart Adventure Park Alphabet Program; a proprietary, research-aligned literacy program developed specifically for JumpStart.

Cody Cat is the first of 26 Adventure Friends who make early literacy engaging and memorable by connecting letter names, sounds, phonological awareness, letter formation, movement, stories and memory cues in one intentional learning system.

But the characters are only part of what makes JumpStart different.

Foundational skills are taught explicitly, directly and in a carefully planned sequence within a structured, hands-on program. Our educators are trained to deliver the curriculum intentionally.

We also assess progress, set individual learning goals, and provide targeted one-to-one and small-group support to help each child reach important literacy milestones, all through engaging Play with Purpose activities.

JumpStart can complement full-time daycare, with weekday and weekend options to make focused early education work for your family.
