You’re invited to the Weaving Stories Premiere! Saturday February 14 at 4pm at Whitemud library theatre.
Weaving Stories is a project Jamie Hurlburt .wovens and I have been working on with for the past year.
Through interviews with local weavers, Weaving Stories shares the joy, resourcefulness, resilience, and creativity of the weaving community in Edmonton. These stories explore how weaving connects Edmontonians to each other, to our varied cultural heritage, and to the tradition of the craft.
This is a free event- registration is required as space is limited.
A huge thanks to for supporting this project!

We’re really excited for an upcoming event in the studio! “An evening with qiviut: meet the muskox fibre! with Tanis Simpson, owner of Qiviut Inc.”
Date: June 8, 2023
Time: 6:00PM-7:30PM
Would you like to get your hands on some qiviut? Often called the world's most precious fibre, and renowned for its unparalleled warmth and softness, qiviut is the downy winter undercoat of Arctic muskoxen. Come meet Tanis Simpson of Qiviut Inc., a 100% Inuit-owned qiviut fibre mill--and get to know this amazing fibre for yourself! Together, we will experience the process of combing qiviut out of hides from muskoxen hunted sustainably for food near the Inuvialuit communities of Ulukhaktok and Sachs Harbour, NWT. Participants will take home 6 grams of raw qiviut--useful for insulating mitts/boots or in any of your fibre projects!
100% of your registration fee goes to Quiviut Inc.
This event and more summer workshops launch May 13, 0800MST.

👋🏻 Hey! It’s been a while and we wanted to share the story of how Gather started… it’s was in a butcher shop. Yep. Our early workshops came with a side of freshly made sausage. You didn't guess it, did you? Let us explain.
In 2019 weaver Kim McCollum and sewist Angela Kelly met at a weaving course. We started talking about the lack of information available for weavers to sew and brainstormed a couple of simple workshops that we could host together for the local weavers. There was a cheap workshop space in a local butcher shop, and for the casual nature of our early projects it was just the thing.
Those early workshops were the spark for what is now Gather Textiles. The last four years we have dedicated to building a team and creating everything we wished existed for weavers: an excellent online course for new weavers, an artist residency, a series of quality patterns and kits in modern and classic designs, a warehouse full of quality weaving supplies, tools, and looms. Oh... and we moved out of the butcher shop!

Designing Twill with Ali Hurlburt .wovens still has spots available.
In this four week intermediate course participants will learn how to combine different twill threadings and treadlings to create a range of twill weave structures. Each participant will create a twill gamp: a sampler that combines different twill patterns to create beautiful patterns. Based on that sampler, each participant will then design and weave a tea towel or runner combining their favourite twills.
