Today is Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada. At MCC and MCC Thrift, we recognize that our work takes place on the traditional territories of many Indigenous Nations. Today, we invite you to join us in listening, learning and walking the path of reconciliation with humility.

Indigenous Neighbours is an MCC program across Canada that strives to build respectful relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. MCC has walked in friendship and solidarity with Indigenous neighbours for over 50 years. Together, we share some important values. A concern for justice. A close connection to the land. Commitment to community.

We also share an awareness that the history between Mennonites and Indigenous peoples includes some deep injustices. As we address this history, MCC is committed to following Christ’s call to healing, reconciliation and peace. It’s not always an easy road – but a critically important one.

MCC’s Indigenous Neighbours program listens to the voices of Indigenous people and communities wherever we work. We rely on their knowledge and experience. Because no two relationships look the same, the program has a unique shape in each province.

What does “enough” look like?
Ken Ogasawara from MCC Ontario invites us to rethink our habits, starting with using what we already have well.

Before buying something new, what if we pause, repair, borrow or wait? ♻️

Small, intentional shifts can ripple outward more than we expect.

A day on the road in Leamington with the Ontario team.

From the donation door to the shop floor, we got a behind-the-scenes look at how this space comes to life each day. We toured the shop, connected with volunteers and captured stories that make this work so meaningful. 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

Moments like these are a reminder that every item donated, sorted and sold is part of something bigger. From local partnerships like Raw Carrot to the people who show up day after day, it all adds up to impact that reaches far beyond the shop. 💛

A three-hour road trip each way, lots of conversations and a full day of thrift.

Every volunteer hour and every purchase at MCC Thrift helps make stories like this possible.

When Elizabeth discovered she was expecting triplets while living with HIV, the future felt uncertain. Through MCC’s partnership with Faith Alive Foundation in Nigeria, she received free prenatal care, guidance and ongoing support. Today, her babies are thriving and HIV-free, and her family continues to receive care when they need it. 💛

Your support reaches families around the world in ways that truly matter.

For more than 14 years, Greg Lang has been a familiar and faithful presence at MCC Thrift Calgary. ❤️

From helping wherever needed to becoming the shop’s resident stamp expert, Greg has shared his time and skills in countless ways. In 2024, he volunteered 2,019 hours. In 2025, he began scaling back a little, though his appreciation for the community hasn’t changed.

📬 Greg runs the stamp section, carefully sorting and preparing stamps, sometimes working from his home. His dedication helps ensure these small but valuable items continue to support a much bigger mission.
