We are a non-profit cinema society devoted to the exhibition of film and video for artistic and cultural means. We present a varied palette of Canadian, international, and independent cinema seven days a week. Our films are now presented in the Historic Garneau Theatre.

Reminder! One week from today, Metro Cinema will begin its annual "Dark Week" where we will be closed for maintenance and renovations.
We'll be closed from June 27th - July 3rd, and re-opening on July 4th.
Don't miss us too much! We won't be gone long! & when we reopen we'll feature many touch ups, improvements, and upgrades - including the first phase of our foyer renovation. We can't wait to show you.

STRANGE BREW
In their quest for free beer, bumbling Canadian brothers Bob and Doug McKenzie wind up working at the Elsinore Brewery. The hapless lads uncover a sinister mind-control plot spearheaded by Brewmeister Smith and must stop the scheme, which also involves Uncle Claude a member of the Elsinore family. As Bob and Doug try to prevent Smith from taking over the world, they also manage to drink plenty of their favourite sudsy beverage.

PLAY IT AS IT LAYS
Burned-out B-movie actress Maria, depressed and frustrated with her loveless marriage to an ambitious film director, Carter Lang, who would rather work on his career than on his relationship with her, numbs herself with drugs and s*x with strangers. Only her friendship with a sensitive gay movie producer, B.Z., offers a semblance of solace. But even that relationship proves to be fleeting amidst the empty decadence of Hollywood.

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL
Set in the 1930s, the Grand Budapest Hotel is a popular European ski resort, presided over by concierge Gustave H. Zero, a junior lobby boy, becomes Gustave's friend and protégé. Gustave prides himself on providing first-class service to the hotel's guests, including satisfying the s*xual needs of the many elderly women who stay there. When one of Gustave's lovers dies mysteriously, Gustave finds himself the recipient of a priceless painting and the chief suspect in her murder.

Rainbow Visions Film Festival hits Metro Cinema from June 18–21, featuring a dozen of the year’s hottest new queer-themed films, retro favourites, scintillating panels, and phenomenal shorts packages.
& on June 21st at 2:00PM, they're screening THE BIRDCAGE for it's 30th anniversary!
In director Mike Nichols’ (The Graduate, Working Girl) hysterical comedy classic, a gay cabaret owner and his drag queen companion agree to put up a false “straight” front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancée’s right-wing, conservative parents.
