The presentation "Overcoming the Pain of Career Trauma" on June 11, 12 pm MDT, helps us understand the effects of these work wounds, (career traumas) on our nervous systems, behaviours and attitudes.
It offers strategies to help mitigate the harmful effects of career trauma, and create a sense of safety and control in our own nervous systems. A safe nervous system has the added benefit of increasing psychological workplace safety in those around us, contributing to happier, healthier workplaces.

Mindfulness Monday 🌿
One of the simplest and most effective self-calming tools I use daily is called self-havening.
It combines gentle touch, breathing, and visualization to help regulate your nervous system—especially during moments of stress or overwhelm.
Here’s a quick version you can try right now:
Close your eyes, take a few slow breaths, and gently stroke your arms from shoulders to elbows while imagining a peaceful place (like walking on a beach). Count slowly to 10.
That’s it. Simple, accessible, and powerful.
I also like using variations like:
- Stroking from palm to elbow
- Placing a hand on my heart and focusing on gratitude
- Gentle touch on the neck while breathing through a concern
The more you practice, the more natural and effective it becomes.
If you work in high-demand environments or support others, this is a great tool to add to your toolkit—for yourself and those you serve.

When something stressful happens, it’s often fast, loud, and overwhelming.
But the way back to safety?
It’s the opposite.
Gentle.
Quiet.
Slow.
One of the simplest ways to support your nervous system is something you’re already doing—breathing.
Try this:
Pause and notice your breath.
No need to change it.
Just observe the inhale… and the exhale.
Then notice how gentle it is.
This breath has been with you your entire life—steady, reliable, and constant. Supporting your body, calming your mind, and helping you reset.
You can deepen this by adding gentle touch:
Lightly stroke your throat, or soften your jaw, temples, or the sides of your head.
Breath + gentle movement = a powerful way to signal safety to your body.
Small practices like this can help you feel more grounded, calm, and present—even in difficult moments.
