A little garden update 🌱

The radishes have popped, the lettuce survived the transplant, and we’re trying out nasturtium hanging baskets this year — just waiting for them to fill out a bit more.

Current goal for the season: stay ahead of the weeds.

We’ll see how that goes 😂

A little greenhouse update 🌱

Despite Mother Nature keeping us on our toes lately, things are moving ahead around here.

The greenhouse is filling up, the backyard beds are planted, and we’re finally getting a good look at everything that’s ready for the season ahead.

We’re doing a final inventory of all our plants now and should have our plant sale post up in the next couple of days 👀

A bit of an update from last week’s craziness.

We lost around 500 tomato plants after the cold, despite our best (and slightly heroic) efforts to save them.

Farming is hard.

But if you’ve been following us for a while, you know we don’t sit in the bad news for long. We take a minute, figure out what we can learn, and then get moving again.

Farming isn’t always the highlight post… but we’re still here 🌱

Don’t worry — the next post will be about the 2500 plants that DID survive.

Mother Nature is being rude! But we’re gonna save the plants! Jimmy rigged the greenhouse and here’s to hoping! If you buy plants from us, just know there’s was a lot of love and some swear words in raising them haha

This time of year, the farm starts in our kitchen.

Tonight we watered peppers, onions, tomatoes, and the first round of flowers. Adam stands at the sink and waters everything, and I walk trays back and forth down the hall to the plant room. It’s a bit of a system… and also a bit of a shuffle.

Right now, everything starts here at home. Some of these plants will eventually head out to our backyard beds, while the tomatoes, peppers, and flowers are getting their start for both our summer growing and our annual plant sale.

Later in the season, many of these plants will make their way to the greenhouse at the farm. But for now, it’s trays on the counter, watering at the sink, and the beginning of another growing season.

It feels really good to be back at it 🌱

🌱 We’re back at it! 🌱

The first seeds of the season are officially in—and it feels so good to have the grow lights on again.

Peppers are up and reaching, onions are doing their thing (even if they look a little wild 😄), and we’ve just planted the first round of flowers to kick off the year. There’s something pretty special about this stage… tiny starts with a whole season ahead of them.

This is where it all begins for us at Four Roots —slow, intentional, and full of hope for what’s to come.

Thanks for being here with us for another growing season 💚
