These beaded tampon earrings are an arts-based research creation project I made this winter/spring. I looked at beadwork as visual storytelling to normalize conversations about menstruation. Hetero-colonial patriarchy stigmatizes and shames periods, infringing on the well-being of indigenous women, girls, and genderful people. These beaded tampon earrings are art as resistance, confronting colonial ideologies.
Menstrual care is community care.

But I beaded a pair of Blue Jay Earrings back in the summer! They are definitely auntie sized ☺️ as long as a lighter! I have photos up of the pair too 👀

I handmade these beaded blue Jay earrings back in July of this year, and I guess now is a good time to share them!! 😄
They are backed in hide and have fingernail posts/ mouse trap hooks 🐦🪶
It took countless hours to sew these, next time I’ll pull out a timer!
