What do you call it?

In Africa it’s Puff Puff. In the Philippines, Buchi. In India, Gulgula.

That simple mix of flour, sugar, and yeast, fried golden, has a different name in every home — and at Africanival 2026, Alberta Avenue tasted them all.

What do you call Puff Puff in your country of heritage?

Thank you to the volunteers, funders, sponsors, models, fashion designers, artists, and vendors who brought Eastwood Park to life, and to the Alberta Avenue community, all of Edmonton, and Alberta for showing up in thousands to welcome us to our new home. Special thanks to Eastwood Community League and the City of Edmonton for hosting.

Until 2027 — we’ll be back with more colour, rhythm, and flavour celebrating Afro-Caribbean culture, other participating cultures, and the many voices that make Alberta Avenue Edmonton’s cultural heart.

Want to connect with any of the incredible artists or vendors you met or watched?

Just ask — we’d love to introduce you at 780.709.0965.
