DENT REPAIR: PDR OR BODYWORK? 🔧
A dent is a dent… right?
Not when it comes to repairing it.
Choosing the right repair method can mean the difference between preserving the original finish and doing unnecessary bodywork.
PDR MAY BE THE RIGHT OPTION WHEN:
✓ The original paint is intact - no cracks or chips
✓ The metal hasn’t been severely stretched
✓ The dent is accessible from behind or can be safely worked using PDR techniques
✓ There’s no body filler or previous repair in the damaged area
✓ The damage is suitable for controlled metal reshaping
PDR is commonly considered for door dings, hail damage, minor dents and certain creases.
TRADITIONAL BODY REPAIR MAY BE NEEDED WHEN:
✓ The paint is cracked, chipped or otherwise damaged
✓ The metal is significantly stretched or sharply deformed
✓ The panel has more severe collision damage
✓ The damaged area has previous filler or repairs
✓ Restoring the panel requires bodywork, refinishing or painting
THE IMPORTANT PART? 👇
You don’t choose PDR simply because a dent looks small.
The location, depth, shape, condition of the metal and condition of the paint all matter.
Two dents that look almost identical can require completely different repair methods.
