The first thing that always comes to mind when I think about hummingbirds is how fast their wings flap as they fly in all directions. On one hand, they exemplify hustle culture… always moving and getting stuff done.

But, there’s another side to hummingbirds that you might not be familiar with. They take their rest just as seriously as their work. They don’t nap or sleep like other birds, they actually enter into a state called Hummingbird Torpor, which is like a modified hibernation. Everything slows down - their breathing, heart rate, and metabolism.

Leadership asks a lot of us - and it can feel like we are required to be busy like hummingbirds to get it all done.

But when was the last time you gave yourself true, restorative rest?? When was the last time you helped your body shift from hyper-alert to grounded and responsive?
